I recently bought a used jag from a dealer but the windscreen, while not actually smeary, is quite difficult to see through due to, I assume, some residual oil or grease or even polish. I regularly have the car cleaned at my local Tesco Bulgarian car cleaners and they always do a first class job but they might be the cause of the problem with polish used on the windscreen.

So is there a recognised way of getting the glass cleaned and can I get this done professionally?

Hi Martyn,

I once used a windscreen cleaner/water repellent and found that it seemed to leave a haze on the windscreen.      I managed to get rid of it my using a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water, which I put into a spray bottle.  I use the same process to clean my windscreen wipers.

It is good for the interior of all windows, too.

Peter.

I am having a similar problem with an X-Type with heated windscreen. I get a lot of dazzle from oncoming traffic at night. Changed blades and washer cleaner and windscreen looks clear. Anyone else experiencing this problem. Could it be the heater elements?

Vinegar diluted with the same amount of water is also quite good.
