Hello to everybody

I took my jaguar s  type  3 litre /2002  today for its m.o.t  and sadly it  failed on the catalytic converters,is there a cross reference for this item from another car  or where  can I buy two, ebay is a option

 regards to all liam

thank you  for  help and reply . it failed on high CO  the  pass  mark for CO was 32  it came in at  62, all  the others were fine, the HC 31 pass 200, Lambda was 1012 pass 970/1030 ,the natural idle test pass  630/830 ,the tester suggested cataclean  and take it for a drive and keep the revs over 4500 , which I did  and returned  for retesting, sadly  not enough of a  affect on the CO  it lowered from 62  to 50 ,so the  conclusion  was failed  or blocked  cat. I put a fault code reader my jag and obtained the following codes   P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1) P0430 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 2) ,it runs lovely its hard to believe it got a fault , but it is all new state of the art mot diagnostics there

regards to all liam

hi

looking on ebay cats for your car look at about £80 each

dont know if you will get away with changing 1 or the pair

if your in good knick and your thinking of keeping it £160 for a pair of cats is not badly priced compared to a genuine set

cheers

Joe

Make sure you get the cats from the same type of s as yours.

Cats from a 2002-04 car will not fit 2004- 2008, I should know I've tried it.

hello to all

i have put both cats in  my jaguar now and I have to say, it was troublesome to do it at home along with broken and seized bolts as well as two  lambda sensors seized in as well  with very little access ,it can be done but not for the faint hearted  so for anybody attempting this project I wish you well

regards to all

liam

Hey Liam,

Well done on swapping them out yourself, I'd do the same if and when it comes to it, what did you pay for them in the end?

Just a tip you probably know anyway, make sure the car is fully warmed up before they test emissions, the difference between hot and warm / cold is literally pass and fail. I've been dragging a '96 MGF through successive MOT's, and they really struggle. I suggest anybody does not leave the car at the MOT station but book a while you wait appointment, give her a good thrash before you get there so she's cleared her pipes and then drive her straight in without shutting down.

My S-Type went though on 0.016% CO2 (0.2 pass) on the fast idle and 0.006% (0.3 pass) on the natural idle, with only 9ppm of HC where the pass is 200! Given she'd done c130K by her last test, I was super pleased and encouraged that I've got a good one and that it is one excellently designed and put together engine!

Cheers, Russ

Hi Russ

I paid £198.00 including vat and came with two with the clamps and a tube of exhaust paste as well . I didn't use the clamps, if you want his phone number no problem he sends parts all over the country but he is local to where i live so I collected them

Thanks Liam, hopefully I won't need them for awhile, but good to know they're not super expensive

Hi Liam, would you mind pm'ing me his number? Seems like a good price and I may need 1 soon!

Thanks,

Dan

Bought mine in recent months from the link below. They seem to know what they are selling, very helpful and quick delivery. Product good as well. Photos on my submissions in S-Type from a few months back.

Hey John,

Thanks for the suggestion, I've ordered the cat and I'm going to install them on the weekend. Hopefully it all goes well. If you have any suggestions and ideas on how to go about with this any advice would be greatly appreciated. I found your posts about cats and I will give it a read.

Thanks again,

Elliott

Elliott, it is a reasonably straight forward job. The only pointers I could offer are what I imagine you will be well aware of anyway.: make certain you have the correct sized sockets etc., to avoid rounding off. Use a couple of soakings of WD40 and let it soak in before attempting to remove nuts, especially at the manifold. Be sure the joint at the manifold is seated correctly when you fit the new Converter and do not over torque the nuts.

Good Luck with the job. Best Wishes and Regards, John

Thanks, I got my cat out on first try, overnight soaking with WD40 Specialist Penetrate did the job, however they sent me a cat with the downstream sensor position on the pipe rather then on the cat it's self like the original cat. Will this mean I have to extend the wires of the O2 sensor? I have attached an image. Was your's the same?

No, mine was an exact replica/copy of the original equipment fitting.

Yes, that's what I thought from your pictures. I had seen this model on ebay and was dreading receiving it. Unfortunately it turned up. I spoke to them and they are going to arrange a replacement.

Thanks,

Elliott

Elliott, I know it is a nuisance getting the wrong specification delivered, but at least they have accepted their mistake and are arranging the correct replacement. Far better than you altering the wiring to the Lambda Sensors. Good luck when you eventually get to do the job.

Agreed, I definitely don't want to alter any wiring.
