Hi all I've recently bought a 2.0D X-Type for spares or repair. The guy said he suspected the fuel pump had gone. On having a look the engine seems to be getting fuel. And there was no metal particals in the filter.

Does seem a shame as it's a lovely car and it's got mot till November.

Any advice on where to check next would be gratefully received

Hi

Its hard to say

have you plugged in to see if there are any fault codes on the ecu

have you checked all the fuses, power to the engine ecu and glow plugs

usually with a diesel if you get fuel, it will run, I'd pull all the injectors and then crank it to see that they all squirt

cheers

Joe

OK thanks. I've got a cheap code reader but it won't communicate with the car so I need to find another one that will.

Also it's got an egr blanking plate fitted would that be a problem.

I'm checking the fuses etc tomorrow

hopefully when you put a code reader on it will flag up the problem ? ... things i would try is good earth points, then battery, fuel pump, starter motor solenoid, knock sensor, power to all glow plugs, all air intake sensors, relays in fuse box,     good luck....dave.

Had a code reader on the car today and it showed p0251.

Anyway I changed the injectors for 4 I had from a donor engine and she fired into life, granted it was a bit lumpy as they weren't coded. But I think I might have solved the issue.

Does anyone know what software I can use with a elm327 to recode the injectors

Hi Now hopefully your found the problem. I would consider having a Delphi agent refurbish them. The codes them self's are stamped as 16 digits on the injectors if your removed these from a unkown high mileage engine the there's a good chance the codes won't now be correct? And your end up having poor performance and high mpg after coding. The code read from the PCM will be firing order 1,3,4,2.

Full details how to use the ELM 327 can be found at http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/elm327/

I would also suggest renew the fuel filter & sump oil.
