sensors rear not beeping

hi all can anyone help me  I got a Jaguar x type and outside I can hear the clicking sound on all four sensors but no beeping sound  in car  help please thank u

Hi Jason , i had the same problem with mine recently and as Joe said it was the speaker / bleeper that was at fault . It is located under the rear parcel shelf accessible from the boot . If you have a premium sound system in it will be more difficult as the access point is where the parcel shelf speakers are located . I sourced a brand new Ford one which fitted and works off e-bay for a tenner  Genuine Ford Parking Control Aid Speaker 4501599 and took ten minutes to fit .

Hi Andy. I had a similar problem-for the first few days after buying my car, the parking aid was fine, then one day it made one very long beep and hasn't uttered a sound since. I thought it might be the sounder, and looked for it under the parcel shelf from the boot, but I can't seem to find it. Could it be anywhere else? Any help much appreciated! My car is a 2005 D classic saloon.

Hi Charles , i'm not sure if it could be anywhere else . Have you been looking in the right place ? If you locate the metal base of the parcel shelf from the boot , there should be two large round holes ( where the premium sound bass speakers should be ) with some covering glued over them . If you gently push the covering out of the way you can then fit your hand in and have a feel round to locate the small bleeper / speaker . On mine the bleeper / speaker is attached to the metal parcel shelf base with two push in black fasteners which just push straight through the lugs on the bleeper and into the frame . You can see them poking through from the boot if you can get your head in far enough lol . If you have a premium sound system the two large holes will have speakers in and that will make the job a lot more difficult .

Hi Andy. Yep, it's exactly where you said it would be! I guess I wasn't looking properly....it seems to be ok, has a resistance of 50 ohms, which according to the back of it is what it should be. I guess I need to check if all the sensors are clicking next, then look at the control module. Thanks for your help!

If all four sensors are working it could possibly be the parking aid control module which i think is located in the boot in the spare wheel recess .

None of the sensors are clicking. The revering lights are working so the switch is ok I guess. I removed the control module. It was damp, I cleaned the pins and the mating halves, and removed the board and cleaned it too, as it had some gunk on it, Still nothing, not a sausage. It could still be the module of course, but  I guess the next step is to check the sensors and wiring. Do you know if they are easy to remove? Should check the fuse too I guess.

You would be unlucky if all four sensors were faulty so i would check the fuses before you go any further . If the module has had water in it it might well be kaput . Have you tried drying it out with a hair dryer to get all the dampness out ?

Yes, I dried it thoroughly. Will have a poke around at the wiring and fuses next. Failing that I guess it's a new module , which are looking terribly pricey on eBay at the mo :-(

manual says fuse 33 in the engine bay fuse box....there is no fuse 33, the fuse holder is not fitted! Any ideas anyone?

Right, having actually read the hand book properly, I have realised my mistake-F33 is in the glove box fuse box. Really must stop trying to do three things at once...anyway, It was a bit of a wriggle to get to, but checked out fine. I have downloaded a wiring diagram, and have confirmed that there is 12 V on the correct pins as system supply, and 12V coming from the reverse switch. A closer look at the ECU revealed a damaged track around the 5V regulator, which is at the bottom-most corner of the board, hence the most affected by water ingress. This was carefully repaired and...nothing. Time for a new ECU, then. A quick look at eBay showed second hand units going for between £80.00-£110.00, which seems really rather salty to me, but a friend told me that a Land Rover unit is exactly the same. He said the module is used in several different vehicles, not just JLR stuff, and that the only relevant section of the part no is the middle part-which is indeed the same. These do indeed seem to be identical, and are hugely cheaper-I easily found a tested unit for £22.00, including postage. I will let you know if it works...

Similar to the situation when i was looking for a replacement speaker / bleeper . Someone had one second hand on eBay with the exact serial number and wanted £18 plus postage , but i sourced a brand new Ford one which fitted and worked for £10 .

It didn't work. The guy who suggested it, who is, in fairness, a professional vehicle electrical technician, insisted it should and that I must have a faulty sensor or wiring. He then said that I should simply buy a complete aftermarket kit and fit that, as it will be cheaper than even one second-hand sensor. This surprised me...but he was right! A quick peruse of fleabay showed many available for a few quid. £16.00 saw a complete system delivered the next day, four sensors, control box, small colour screen and all cabling. I fitted it, with the screen unobtrusively top right of the windscreen and all cables hidden, and it works a treat, the screen giving a graphic representation of the car. A bonus is that the sensors are hard wired and potted, so should be impervious to bad weather.
