I picked up some superficial scratches on both sides of my car whilst driving on very narrow roads with hedges on both sides. they run the length of the car and my first thought was to use some 'Tee-cut' to polish them out but the bodywork is a lacquer finish and I am a little concerned that I might damage it. Can anybody offer advice on this please?

Hi Geoff,

If it was me id take to a proffesional detailer if you have one near you. I definatly wouldnt touch it with Tee-cut.

I agree with Jeffus, a professional detailer is very sound advise. I use a clay bar to remove surface dirt, which gives the very best ever glass like finish I have ever achieved. Top this off with a good quality canuba wax, I recommend Harley wax, its a fabulous product and unlike most wax/polishes it leaves no white dusty residue and leaves a mirror like finish. In on my 4th tin and the more layers that you apply the deeper the finish you get. Ive spent many happy hours in my man cave (double garage) using this type of product and usually end up feeling quite , but after doing all the hard work the result is :yahoo:.

Hi Geoff,

Some good advice there.  A lot depends on how bad the scratches are.  If they are not too serious, it could be worth finding an unobtrusive one and use some Autoglym detailing spray which can also be used as a lubricant for a clay bar application.

Regards,

Peter.

I had the same issue, I went to an independent paint shop, turns out he was an ex Jag-Land Rover painter, he gave the car the once over with some kinda polishing tool to buff the lacquer, it worked a treat, only cost me £40. He was confident about the quantity or lacquer though. The first place I visited wanted me to sign up to being prepared for a respray of the whole side of the car.

regards

Pete.

Thanks to all for the advice, I definitely won't be using T-Cut and have already had a chat with my local garage who will look at it and see if they can buffer the scratches out.

Brasso. Works wonders and when you buff it up leaves absolutely no trace of scratch or product.
