Retrofitting Jaguar XF

Recommended Posts

Hi all from a newbie

I have had my 2013 3.0 premium luxury XF now for 6 weeks. Even though I love the vehicle I was disappointed that this model did not come with reversing camera or front parking sensors as standard but still purchased the vehicle as I fell in love with her.

I spoke to Jaguar dealer in Doncaster and asked if these items could be retrofitted, I was informed yes and it could be completed in a day so I ordered the parts and booked her in to be done. I dropped her off on the day and headed home, I had been home no more than 30 mins when the mechanic phoned me saying that this retrofit couldn't not be done. He stated this would be an issue from how the car left the factory and within the computer management system these items would be turned off as Jaguar didn't like people retro fitting parts, he said would fit them but wouldn't guarantee that they would work as he couldn't turn the items on in the computer. I had a quote for £980 inc VAT for parts and fitting and he said he didn't want to take my money just in case they didn't work. He also said the the front sensors had to have someone come in and properly align were they had to be on the bumper.

Apologies for war and peace but wanted to give back story, My question is can equipment be retrofitted to Jaguars in general including the XF, or was he just fobbing me off because they had under quoted me and that they had forgot to book the sensor alignment guy to come in complete the work.

If anyone can give me advice on this it would be great as I still want to get the reverse camera fitted as I have had after market front parking sensor strip fitted that works great.

Cheers in advance

Only going on a previous post about something else that I read, which is pretty much as you state - Jaguar turn this off during build so you cannot fit after market items.  I bet it can be turned on if only someone knew how to do it.  The dealership sound like they are being honest/cautious rather than fobbing you off.  I am thinking outside of the box here but if you really want to fit an after market one can you give it it's own power supply and don't even bother with the management system?  I may get shot down for this which I take on the chin.  I realise that power supply would need a source of charging by the way!

Cheers for the reply Graham.

I'm just thinking the worst as they did say they could do it to begin with.

I have seen advertised an aftermarket rear view camera system that utilises current fixtures and screen, I just Wanted to ensure Jaguar were being up front with me.
