My 2008 2.7 XF has a whine when I rev the engine. This is my first Jag and diesel car so maybe its normal. Can anybody with same car tell if this is normal or is the turbo on way out or something else. Film below on my YT channel so you can hear what i am on about. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi

sure sounds like turbo whine,

does it sound louder one side if the car, just wondered if you could tell which turbo it was, or if it was louder one side

also when you drive the car does it make a gushing noise, if so , could be a split hose, I know on XF's intercoolers can fail, but these usually engine management light faults or limp mode

It might be completely normal,

hopefully some 2.7 XF owners will chime in and let you know

cheers

Joe

Welcome to the club, RS,

I have an S Type on a 07 plate and a 2.7 diesel engine - the same engine in you XF.

I listened  to the recording, which was very useful.  Having had my car for four years I thought that you engine was a touch noisier than mine.

The 2.7 diesel engine is a good engine, but is does run better on premium diesel fuel, with the occasional additive to keep its innards clean.  There are plenty of additives on the market --  Millers, Wynns, and a product called Diesel Magic.

You did not mention the mileage the car has done [73,350 on mine], and  I did give it a Terrackean service costing about £120 when I bought it, which I did fid useful;

I would try the cheap route first by using an additive, and I would reccommend Shell V Power or similar for you fuel.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.
