Hi all, new to here. I have an 06 S type 2.7  diesel, about a year now, and 2 weeks ago, just after passing its MOT, the parking brake fault came up on dashboard. I tried disconnecting battery for up to half an hour at a time, but this didn`t cure the problem. Left it in with local mechanic for a normal service and transmission service, and his snap on solus diagnostic machine couldn`t find any fault codes. I then replaced the battery, but again still getting fault on dash. Does anybody know if his diagnostic tool normally picks up Jaguar codes, or do I have to go to dealer to get fault diagnosed? Many thanks, Brian.

hi

Most makes of diagnostics tools only read engine fault codes and even then only give generic codes, so are not allways correct or accurate

there's lots of modules on the s-type, and the only one that reads all of them and gives accurate fault codes is the jaguar IDS/SDD software

there's  lots of jaguar independent dealers that have this as well, so you dont need all ways to go to a main dealer

could be one of many things like faulty module in boot, faulty EPB they go stiff from lack of lube, hand brake cables, especially this time of year, the little rubber boots perish each end of the cables, they fill with water and damp and freeze and caliper mech can seize and go stiff

plugging with jaguar IDS/SDD will give you a exact fault

cheers

Joe

also have a look here this can help you release the epb and get you going

Many thanks for the reply Joe. The annoying thing in all this is parking brake seems to be working fine, holding on hills, and releasing itself as normal.
