2000 3.0 V6 - New member..going to take a look

Featured Replies

Evening All..

Carl here - new member - and have just placed a deposit on a 2000 3 litre V6 S-Type.

Always wanted one of these ever since they were first launched.... I had a Burago model of one in Topaz and vowed, one day, to treat myself.  Well, the time has come.  I currently run a BMW 4 series Gran Coupe as a company car but really cannot get on with it over long distances - it kills my back!  I am no stranger to Jaguars having has a 420G and Series III XJ6 in the past plus an early X-Type Sovereign as a company car.  I currently have, as my 'toy', a 1990 Daimler XJ40.

The S that I am looking at will be my everyday driver and I wanted an early model as I prefer the original concept over the facelift model.

Found what I think is a cracker in Roman Bronze and cant wait to take a closer look - and thanks to all you guys on here, I have been reading and re-reading all the posts about these gorgeous cars to fully understand the pitfalls.

hi

looks great!!

make sure you check sills, there hidden by covers and can completely rot away on any age S-type

also check rear subframe, early models are prone to rust and replacement subframe are very scarce now

cheers

Joe

Welcome to the Club, Carl.

Like you, I have always wanted a Jaguar since I saw a friend restoring a Mk 1 in 1963.  It took a long time but I have now had my s type for just over 5 years and have really enjoyed the drive, and the comfort.

Joe has given you some good advice, and yes, they can rust, but a bit of good news [for me] is mine are OK!

Regards,

Peter.
