Gearbox sensor

Featured Replies

Been offered a 3.0 sport auto for small money. Car will only go in reverse. Seller says it needs new sensor which is located by the sump. Does that sound possible and is that an easy fix for a diy,er?

Regards,

Steve

hi

What year , what car

if its the zf 6 speed auto, then none of the sensors are easy to change

but could also something as simple as the cable requiring adjusting between the j-gate and gearbox, this will give similar faults

all depends what condition the car is in and how much its selling for

cheers

2003 £400 S type

Unless you're happy with finding where the fault(s) lie, or you can take someone who can, personally I wouldn't touch it. It's £400 for a reason.

If it's a stretched cable, great, but if it's a broken gearbox you're looking at big money.

Cheers, Mark
