Hi there, We are due to change the rear tyres on my wifes V6 R Dynamic 2017. People are saying the Michelins are a huge improvement on the factory fitted Pirellis. Any thoughts on this

Welcome to the club, Des.

I changed my Pirellis two and a half years ago for Goodyear Eagles, which I found quite good.  I was "potholed" just over a month ago and had to change the front tyres.  I was advised that Pirellis had improved very much over the last year or so, so I replaced the Goodyear tyres on the front with Pirellis, and found them performing quite well.

I also found that the Goodyears were developing cracks in between the treads, which was surprising as then had only done about 12,000 miles.  I found that the tyres supposedly made in Germany are now made in Poland.  So Goodyear are crossed off the list, and Pirellis will go on the rear tyres when I have a spare £300 in the back pocket.

Michelin are a well thought of tyre, and I would check them out --  where made etc, before making a decision.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks for the info Peter, I will certainly check them out. I used to fit pilot sport on my wifes MX5 several years ago and found at the time that they performed well until half worn, when the grip would disappear and the car would be come unstable. I have seen the glowing reports on F type forums for the Michelins compared to the Pirellis so initially thought that would be the way to go. I personally have never rated Pirellis too high on any car that I have owned. Thanks again.  Regards Des

Hi Jon, prices do vary but shopping around both brands are similar at around £250 each, expensive but they are wide tyres on the rear. I think I shall hold on for a couple of weeks to see if more info comes through. Thanks very much for your comments

Ive literally just changed all 4 for Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Did some checking and they are best rated tyres. All 4 for £850 plus £100 back from Michelin

I believe now that Kwik Fit can do for £750ish if bought online and fitted at local KF

Kwik Fit?  😲  - recently had 2 tyres fitted on my wife's BMW at a KF, when got home noticed that the proper BMW valve caps were missing and replaced with some cheapo items, went back to enquire, front desk bloke asked the fitter who came out with the nicked valve caps - no apology from either of them, just seemed to be std practice nick whot you can!!
