Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 2006 S Type Jaguar that I've never had any problems with. it failed its mot last week just on windscreen wipers and I assumed it would be easy to have them replaced. I've come up against a brick wall though and its turned into a stressful saga. I typed my reg into halfords and bought the blades that came up for my car. Went to Halfords to have them fitted and they said these won't work they're the wrong ones. I told them that they were the ones their site said were for my car but they shrugged their shoulders and said they hadn't seen wipers like mine before. They tried euro parts for me but the same ones came up for my car that look different to mine. Mine has a fixed spray thing attached that can't be removed that can be seein in the first image. All the ones online for my gar are rectangular and different. I'm not sure what to do because if the companies that sell and fit wipers have no info I'm not sure where to go next as have only a few days to get car back for retest for free and even my mechanic has shrugged his shoulders and just said 'oooh they're permanently attached'. I've attached pics. First two are of my wipers and the part they haven't seen before and the second two are of the wipers from euro parts and halfords that are supposed to be for my ca but as you can see are different and i'm told aren't when i go for fitting. Does anyone have any information about this at all? Any advice as to where i go and why nobody seems to have any info on how i replace my wipers? on later s-types there all the same, the washer jet usually clips to the wiper arm, not the wiper itself, looks like your has been altered

if you use the bosch type wipers, you just reuse the mounting clip with the was on

they have to be a traditional metal framed type to reuse the oe mounting clip washer jet

you can't use the flat aero type, the only flat type you can use, is if they come with washer jets integral

How about just changing the rubbers? Wouldn't this save a lot of hassle? I've been doing this for years and it seems to work well along with being cheaper and less wasteful 😉

Changing the rubbers would be OK if the wipers were equipped with the washer.  

Unfortunately the wipers on the s type 2004 -208 are not on Suzanna's car, as they should be.

But I'm suggesting she keeps her old wipers and hence washers, and just changes the rubber blade. Which can be bought from eBay and elsewhere. Of course if it's the washer that's the broken bit, then she will need to replace the wiper arm. But if not and the wiper has failed on performance, inserting a new rubber would seem a good fix  😉

Unfortunately the wipers on Suzanna's car are not the wipers that should be on, and that is the problem and the reason for the MOT failure.

The wipers on all s types after the 2004 facelift  differ from those on the pre facelift model.

Hi Peter, I'm not sure she mentioned it was the washers at fault, but I'm sure you're right, perhaps I missed that. To me it seems a bit of a racket to replace the entire wiper arm when it's the rubber that's the wearing part. It's easy to open one end, remove the old rubber and replace with new, especially on a car like the S-Type, where removal and replacement of the wiper arm could be easier 😉

Replacing rubbers is something I have done for years [except company cars] and for the last few years the local Auto shop would do them for me!

It is a bit of a racket when you have to pay £30 for a set of wipers.

Completely agree Peter, a racket indeed! Surprised more people don't just change the rubbers 😉
