Battery charger

Featured Replies

Hi, can anyone suggest a 'middle of the road' trickle charger for a start stop battery, there are so many out , and some seem overpriced? Thanks

Thanks.

Hhi Rob,

I would recommend a Ctek which would cost about £65.  They connect to your battery directly.

I have a socket fitted just outside my garage, and connect it  every 6 days if my car has been static  --   these days don't see pensioners driving long distances!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

Thanks for the reply, this forum and yourself are very helpful,

Thanks again!

Rob

PS. I have a Mercedes s class 2005 that only runs rough at 1300 to 1500rpm, I have changed plugs and ignition leads, cleaned the MAF but continues to run rough at these rpms, have you and ideas to help please

Thanks

Rob

I swear by the CTEK. My XK is often unused for a week or two (and sometimes more than 2 months when we visit our daughter in New Zealand). If it hasn’t been used for a week or so I put it on the CTEK, and leave it on until it is next used.

I have been doing this for six years now, and the battery is always fully charged.

Hi Rob,

With reference to your Mecedes I am just offering a guess, as I not a mechanic.

It could be an ignition coil. I did have that experience with a Rover Sterling.  If you have access to an OBD2 code reader it could help.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Rob

I am with Old Peter. I have a Ctek MXS Stop/Start which is mind numbingly simple to use, particulalry with a "comfort" extension permenantly attached in the boot. It really is plug and play with no choices to make or modes to set as it designed for AGM batteries.

Regards

John
