Tom,

I had for many years a service plan for my Jags and swore by them as it spread the costs over the year so did not get a big bill once a year. However, when I changed main dealer I was persuaded to go for Fixed Price Servicing (by the sealer) as it worked out much cheaper for the same thing.

I now do the Fixed Price servicing, yes I have a bill in one hit but at less cost.

Worth chatting to your main dealer. Hope this helps.

I will be renewing my 3 year rolling service plan in the new year but that is because it is tied to a "warranty 4 life" (Non-Jag). Looking at the cost of fixed price servicing for 3+years at Jag Dealers your service at 4 years and 6 years if you include a Brake fluid change would be around £800-900. Add to that the cost of the 2 year Service and you are probably not far off your quote.Personally I would never go 2 years between Oil changes but I am old school 🙂

For me the decider is do you rate the dealers service and how much is it worth to have a contractual service arrangement with a main dealer in case of future problems? Obviously if you were happy to go to a specialist rather than a main dealer you could probably halve that quote. Decisions Decisions 🙂

Thanks @Big John & @Clive Hunt

Best giving them a call, glad you both had good things to say. I would be using Lincoln Jaguar where I got the car and very happy with there service so far so wouldn’t hurt to stay loyal.

Loyalty - are you loyal to your energy supplier, car insurance provider, house insurance provider? With those, loyalty normally means paying far more than shopping around.

5.2 hours of labour...that would seem to be at about £180 per hour for doing nothing very technical or difficult.

I pay 41 pound a month for a service plan with main dealer. It is pricy and that was with a good discount, but when I have taken my XF (RS) to independent garages, some wont touch certain parts!

My car is 4 years old and only done 35kmiles and just had the S1 service listed below. i went for the 3+ age plan, I am happy with the monthly cost, also it does help with future value if it has main dealer service history. It doesn't include the timing service, but I will cover that at the time.
