Cherished Car Policy Valuation?

Featured Replies

I have a 2001 S-Type 3.0 petrol (45000 miles since new) which I have owned since 2003 and had serviced annually. Following a recent costly replacement of the rear suspension (a lady ran into me low speed and side on) I now want to put the car on a Classic Car Policy, but most insurers will only insure based on a market value of £2-3000. Considering the amount of outlay, care taken by me, and cost of having to make such repairs again does anybody know who would be able to put a realistic replacement/reinstatement value on this vehicle? I love my S-type, I'd like to keep it, but I'm fed up with insurers saying they'll write such a car off if it has the slightest damage. Any tips gratefully accepted. Thanks

Hi Tim

I recently insured my 2001 XK8 with Peter Best and got an agreed valuation policy with limited mileage. After many years with Adrian Flux I decided to shop around and Best was by far the cheapest. I had to submit 6 pictures of the car and fill in a valuation form. Worth a try.

Pete

I don't know, but I suspect that to get a policy that would cover you for 'above market value', you would need an independent valuation from a recognised expert ?

Probably the JDC or similar ?

They seem to have a Bloke who knows about these things, who looks at the photo's and the declaration forms and decides if would cost your valuation to replace like for like. If you give an honest valuation and submit it to them before your policy is due to start they either agree with your figure or say what they think is reasonable. If you don't agree they might ask for an independent valuation.

There seem to be more companies doing agreed valuations now so it might be worth shopping around.

I got agreed valuation of £7.5K for 2005 X350 Sovereign, 50000 miles limited to 6k miles a year, and £14k for 2001 XK. 39000 miles limited to 2k miles. I think the X350 would cost more to replace and will shop around next year.

Hi.

Please feel free to give us a try for agreed value insurance if you wish.

If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back if you wish.

Regards,

Dan.
