that's a good point. I have the full aesthetic package, including the exhaust system (which cost a few grand new, about 5 if i remember correctly) but I'm unsure about engine mods - I'm guessing not.

hi

you will only get what people will want to pay for it

it all depends on condition, as you may know the sills on these can completely rot away

you will get more for a good solid one with history, the arden bits were just bolt on parts, so wont make it worth a lot more, as its not a official jaguar model.

also there really classed as modified, so dont appeal to every one, also can effect insurance as its been modifed which can open another can or worms, if they ask for more details

cheers

that's very true. mine is in great condition - and i'd imagine more valuable than a basic model.

Hi FZ,  I think you may have misunderstood the point that JOE-DOT-COM was making with regards to your enquire about value of the car.

The point being made was that the car is not necessarily worth extra monies due to it being modified, in fact many serious buyers of Jaguars of this era will be looking for Original Equipment as it was built and left Jaguar production line. It is often originality, mileage, service history, as well as the all important condition that dictates what a buyer is prepared to pay for any given vehicle. The point being made about modified vehicles is very true and very, very important regards insurance. Quite often insurance companies in general will not want to quote for insurance cover on modified vehicles. The specialist insurers that will/do quote are very likely to charge premiums for the cover. Also consideration has to be made to the fact that if modifications are not declared, then the insurance would/could become null and void, in the event of any incident.

sure, i know it will impact the insurance price but that comes with buying an arden, brabus, etc. well, the usp for this car is that it is an arden, an extremely well kept one at that, and that a genuine arden is extremely rare - far more rare than the standard oem version. so, if anyone wants to buy it, it will be because it is an arden. as i mentioned earlier, the arden alloys were sold for £1,500 on ebay a while back, whilst OEM alloys are not. So i do think this car is more valuable than a standard version - i think this would be true of a well kept brabus mercedes too.

It isn't 'an Arden', it is a Jaguar X-TYPE with aftermarket Arden parts fitted ?

Brabus and Alpina are officially recognised as manufacturers in their own right, even though they modify BMW and Mercedes vehicles.

Arden, on the other hand, are an aftermarket tuning company (not particularly well known in the UK)

They had a deal with Pendragon (who I worked for at the time) in the early / mid 2000's, which meant that we could sell Jaguars from main dealers with 'dealer fit' (not factory fitted) Arden accessories.

This could be alloys, lowering kits, mesh grilles, body kits, exhaust systems, etc.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay, if they see 'added value' in the Arden accessories, they may be willing to pay more.

Someone who values 'originality', may alternatively think the 'add ons' de-value the car ?

Also, if it is based on a 'Sport' model, it should have colour coded bumper blades, colour coded grill surround and black window surrounds, the SE had chrome.

Each to their own !

hi, i understand what you mean in general however, this article (https://www.topgear.com.ph/features/feature-articles/want-to-buy-a-brand-new-80s-jaguar-in-2019-a2613-20190112 ) thinks arden is to jag what brabus and alpina are to mercedes and bmw respectively - but we all have different views.

mine has chrome, just like the pic.

you're right, something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it, so i hope i can find a buyer who values the as much as i do. thanks

You are very correct when you say we all have different views. I personally would not have much faith in anything that is suggested by TopGear. I think that programme is no longer an informative media but just light hearted entertainment.

I do sincerely hope you find the buyer for your car that is of the same opinion as yourself.

FZ, Not at all. It is not for me to judge your car. The car looks good, as far as the photo shows. My comments were merely based on your original submission which was asking for a price guide and any help being appreciated. I think it is so, that nobody on this Forum, would condemn or think very little of anyone's car. Every comment that was made seems to be an opinion on helping you, as you requested.

As has been stated: Each to their own and again I wish you well with disposing of your car. Regards, John
