Hi,

On Thursday I took my car in for it's annual service/MOT.

When I went to collect it, it was with some glee, that the mechanic took me to the place where, while running some tests, the thermometer, in his words, exploded. The area was quite flooded.

Two days before I had driven home from North Wales a four hour drive, so I was lucky it didn't happen then.

Is this a common problem as I've never heard of it happening before?

BTW the car passed the MOT.

Sorry! I meant thermostat.

Never heard of a thermostat exploding, but where did all the water come from or did the car over heat and something blow like a radiator or water pump?

I'm not sure, all I know is that, in some stage of the test, he was revving the engine and off it went. he showed me the plastic casing of the thermostat which was in pieces.

I assume the garage replaced all that was necessary?

They replaced the unit at cost price with no labour charge.

Cannot really question their action, which I think was more than reasonable.

Yes, I've used them for ages and they always seem to do a very good job at a reasonable price.

Hi John.

No, they're a local garage. But they've never been phased by any of the cars I've owned. (Jaguar,Honda, Range rover, Hyundai, Vauxhall).

I do wish I had someone local, like you , who could be trusted with my vehicles. I know we do not live major distances apart but I guess it is too far from West Gloucestershire where I live, to where ever it is in Somerset that you live. I have just lost my garage where all of my work was always carried out.

Best Wishes and Regards, John.

I live in a village between Bristol and Portishead, two minutes from junction 19 on the M4, if that helps. They also do a courtesy car by arrangement.

I know it's a horrible feeling when you lose a trusted workman, I hope you find a new one soon.

I am an ex Bristolian and know that part of the world quite well.
