hi all,

my dad has just bought a jagur xj6 exec automatic it has a 3.2 engine . when in nueteral the engine is idling at around 1800rpm which to us seems quite high, can anyone please reccomend the correct rpm.

Not quite sure, I would say about 750 to 1000 RPMs, but like you 1800 sounds to high.I have a 2Ltr diesel SE and it idles at 750 to 800 RPMs, sounds good, runs good,and getting around about 44mpg urban.

Hi

I would imagine it should idle at 800rpm.. 1800 seems a lot. Does it sound like its idling fast?

That does seem quite high, maybe call a garage you trust and ask them what they think?
