My 2003 XJ6 (El-Grandé) suffered a breakdown. The gear selector linkage bolts had somehow fallen out. So I took into to a Jaguar service centre for repairs. While there I thought I'd get the car serviced as well. Lots of problems were found. Too many to list. The final bill? £4547.82. YES, Four thousand, five hundred and forty-seven pounds, eighty-two pence. No holiday this year. Wife not happy. The XJ6 feels very fit though.

Was that at a stealership Michael?

Here is an example of costs:

Diagnostics:  Main Dealer  £69.

                      Independent Garage.  £30.

The mobile mechanic I use £20.

Same job, same equipment, same diagnosis.

Pete.

Peter,

My friend said almost exactly the same costs with his Ford escort diesel he uses for work, I think most stealerships are well over priced .

Hey Peter,

would your mobile mechanic's run by any chance include Australia??

Sorry to hear Michael.

I am going through the same with my S-Type, but only @ GBP 3,000.

On the up-side, we are still driving Jaguars, whereas my neighbour isn't........

When the warranty has run out I'll be getting all the work done on mine by an independent garage .

Liked all your replies, guys. Jaguars. You gotta love 'em.

Had the S-type V8 serviced at Stratstone Jaguar in Milton Keynes, very reasonable at £280.

However they found two slight oil leaks from the auto box, estimated cost of repair £4488.00 (that's right, four thousand)

Actual cost of repair from ZF certified transmission specialist including gearbox service £410.23.

Stealership doesn't even begin to describe them!!!
