MPG for V6 S Type

Featured Replies

These things happen for a reason Peter.

I was so tempted with the S-Type when looking for my X. A neighbour of mines son has the 2.7 with the sports pack. All the chrome grilles, big alloys and lower suspension and it's beautiful! I couldn't find one and the others appeal to the older generation more then mine, and rightly they should. They're a great car and that 2.7 is a masterpiece. Shame the X-Type didn't have the 2.7 option. Perhaps I can shoehorn one in?!

Yes, Mick.  The S Type in the SE version can be driven in genteel cruising mode, as it were, and yet, on a fast road with the S button lit up,  it goes like the Chariot of Jehu  --  verily like the wind!

I have had diesels before, the Rover 418 had the Peugeot engine and sounded a bit like a Massey Ferguson on start up, and the Rover 420 which was quite smooth.  Neither could match the quietness of the 2.7, the acceleration and the fuel economy.

Regards,

Peter.

I agree with isis, I've only had the motor for a few weeks S Type 3.0 Sport but am getting around the mid twenties knocking about locally. I too leave the B Trip alone because you can get an overall reading for combined and that's reading 27.8mpg.

I do a lot of Stoke to London travelling during the football season as my family originate from Fulham Broadway area, Brompton I think, anyway I digress, I will be able to get a 'fairer' reading then.

After a Terraclean service three weeks ago and filled with premium diesel I had to drive up to Lancashire yesterday.  I set Doris [the Satnav] on to the shortest distance - plus a slight detour to pick up my sister - and driving normally, I got 49.2 miles to the gallon. Only 16 miles of motorway on the trip.

Coming back in the evening, and stuck behind a lorry in the Staffordshire lanes for half an hour, I finished up with 40.2 mpg for the round trip.

I consider that not bad for a 2.7 litre diesel.

Peter.
