    hi its because the rear lights use a constant 12v on one side of the bulb, then the other side of the bulb goes to the rear body module and switches the earth. the wire your connection to is a earth so it wont work, you have to use a relay to convert the switch earth to a switched positive, look at pic below any relay will do cheers Joe
