  1. With all these new symptoms you need to get it plugged into Jag software to diagnose propeely.

You said it was sitting for a long time. When first started again did it select gears ok? Some times it will select reverse ok but not drive because the linkage becomes stiff. That can send the check light on.

Hello, it's an automatic. Where is it located to check the fluids?

Has to be done by a garage usually as it is a sealed unit. If it is in to get the level checked then best to renew the Oil at the same time.

As I recall to refill the Oil into the gearbox it needs to be pumped in under pressure, or, if you have no way to do that then the car needs to be jacked up on one side to a certain height and then refilled.

There are various you tube videos to show this.

If there are no obvious leaks under the car level is probably ok.

Playing with the Oil in x types generally leads to more problems due to the disturbance of sediment.

    Good luck.

  3. tyres, you either buy the brand that are oe,  buy them for best cornering, buy them for their ability in wet conditions, or buy them for their longevity.

You do not say which model of Kumho.

Personally, I removed the Kumho's, which were fitted to my x type when I bought it, and replaced them with Uniroyal rain sports. Wet weather handling improved dramatically. Dry handling is very good, i am not one of those that tries to take every corner as fast as possible, and have now covered 13000 miles with them and they still look like new. There was a slight increase in road noise.

  4. On keyless entry hire cars I have had there is always a button on the door handle to be pressed. Same for locking. If no button, then probably not keyless entry.

Usually it is walk up to car, push button, open door as normal.

Try searching on you tube to see how it works.

  5. Change the cable but also try it with an aux cable, see if that makes a difference.

No expert, but must be a pretty old ipod with no bluetooth.

Having rooted around on youtube i think you will need a bluetooth transmitter which fits into the port in your ipod. However, then you cant charge your ipod. The auxilliary cable is the way to go by the looks of it.

My apologies, unfortunately the new car didn't come with a sarcasm filter.

Yep I did pose a question (re schreecing noise) looking for some help and was advised I'd put it in the wrong forum (EPace) therefore asked in the general forum.

If I realised asking a question precluded one from making a general observation around my experience of buying a 1st Jag (incl long delay, shark fin, radio coverage, ubugi SIM data, infotainment language etc) I would have saved oneself from the bother. Obviously I got confused between an open car forum and Pravda. My humblest apologies comrade!

    Nyet problem tovarich.

I once drove down a busy road following a lorry hauling rocks.  A large chunk fell off the back and hit the road, bounced and flew into the air.  At this point I had 3 options.  Brake hard but I could tell if I did that it would hit me.  Do nothing with the same result or put my foot down.  With only a split second to make my choice I put my foot down.  It hit the road just in front. Bounced over my now fast moving car. Hit the road behind and took out the bumper of the car behind me.  If I had a limiter fitted I feel sure the rock would have come through my windscreen.

Alas this was the days before dash cams and I was so shook up by the whole incident I did not have the presence of mind to take the trucks number plate.  Apart from a mashed up bumper the driver and passengers were ok in the following car.  Though the driver did not take too kindly to me missing the rock by speeding up.  He tried to blame ME.   I just got in the car and drove off.  Heard no more.

Most Jags have limiters fitted anyway, though mine is limited to 150 mph............ 🙂

Sheer luck. Nothing to do with what you did. Just how far behind a 50mph truck were you to enable you to speed up to "fast moving". The rock could have bounced lower, bounced even higher, bounced to the kerb.

The simple fact is cars have improved massively, driving skills have not. Something has to be done. You only have to look at the amount of accidents on the M6 roadworks in a 50mph limit while being changed to a "smart" motorway. Speed limits are just that, a limit and not a target! Because it says 40mph does not mean everybody has to do 40mph. The slow cars pay road tax and the ferraris pay road tax.

It is a sheer lack of courtesy and patience that cause most accidents, as can be seen on many a dash cam warrior website.
