If not which i suspect will be the case would it be a quick DIY fix to change the filter or do I need for my mechanic to do it?
Hi Paul, the job is definitely a DIY job though it will be a bit fiddly.
Personally, I would remove the bottle from the car so it can be throughly cleaned out. This will also give better access for the filter which will just require cleaning rather than replacement. Be mindful of any O seals that may be fitted.
Dont forget to blow through the lines also.

Hi Oliver,
The 4.2 is a very reliable engine and at that mileage will have very little wear.
The main thing to check is that all the electrics work and there is no faults.
60k the gearbox needs a Oil and filter change.
Check that the “duckbill” modification has been carried out for the a/c drain, if not then the passenger side carpet will get wet at some point.
The valley pipes for the cooling system are a potential weak point though again, at that mileage, shouldn’t be a problem.
All in all, a nice car but do ask to see as many receipts for any work carried out.
Good luck.

Excellent work Peter. Glad to hear all is well.🤙

Hi Paul,
No need to replace the blades. Pull off the pipes and try again. If you still have no water then your most likely problem will be gunge at the bottom of the washer bottle blocking the filter.
You will probably end up removing the bottle to facilitate proper cleaning and it would also be prudent to blow through the pipes with compressed air, just in case.

Jim, do you think that i should take the car to a specialist to plug it in for error codes to be cleared and reset following the dead battery scenario?
Hi Paul,
If you don’t have a code reader yourself then it would be worthwhile taking it to a specialist. I would also recommend getting the battery properly checked whilst you’re there.

Hi Paul,
possible causes;
defective pump,
blockage in the line.
The screenwash pump is electronically controlled so no direct fuse. Can you hear the pump when you press the button?

Welcome to the forum David. Try the suggestions in this thread. First, lock the car and then manually push the mirrors into the folded position, spray some lubricant into the hinge base and then unlock the car and see what happens.
-
Hi Anthony, 2 things spring to mind as probable causes, the alarm chirp sounder internal rechargeable batteries shorting out and the flap in the ignition barrel stuck open.
Give these guys a call, very well respected specialists and where I go.

When you have a blank nav screen and a 50 51 on the small green LCD screen this means the screen lost communication with the nav module which is the reader in the trunk. The module will need to be replaced but you can try disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable for about a half hour to see if it will reset.

With a fully charged battery and everything switched off, it might make it. Personally, I wouldn’t risk it.
-
Perfectly feasible John. I suspect either the wheel speed sensors or reluctor rings will require changing.
-
Alternator needs replacing I’m afraid.

Morning All
Question on spark plugs:
I am being told by my local specialist that plugs only need to be changed every 100,000 miles! Mine have covered just 21,000 in 7 years, they were fitted by the previous owner.
I have owned the car 2 years and have been delighted with it, It starts and runs great with no issues, current mileage is 62,000 and i just wondered should i change the plugs as 100,000 will take another 10yrs!
Thanks in advance for any comment/advice.
If everything is ok then leave it alone, enjoy the car.🤙

The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT 😉
And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well 😉
For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 🙂
Oh are you in for a treat. 😎 Make sure you have extra fixodent in for when you mash the loud pedal.😈🤣

If the light cluster in question is the one on the tail gate then the most likely problem will be a broken wire in the loom at the hinge point of the tailgate.

I noticed the park gate light is not light up, not sure if this is the issue why it will not start. Any advice would great.... So frustrating.
This will definitely stop the car from starting as the ecu does not see the gearbox in Park or Neutral. Have a look at the cables on the side of the gearbox, they may need adjusting.

Hi Paul, you would need to remove the wheel and the wheel arch liner also.
