  1. Hi Trevor,

On the site, Under Jaguar Owners Forum you will find a topic titled   List of recommended Independent Jaguar Garages.  I think it would be very useful to members if you put the details of your Garage on that topic, as enthusiastic Jaguar specialists are [in my opinion] much better than most main dealers.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  2. Hi Johnny, and welcome to the club.

I don't get oily hands any more, but there are many who know about these great cars.

I am sure that someone will be able to assist.

Failing that, Spanners in Coleshill are quite good.

I gave my 2.7D the Terraclean treatment, which is of great benefit to diesels and it has made a world of difference.

    Good Luck

    Peter.

  3. BMW eat you heart out!

On Friday I was driving in between Solihull and Birmingham on the back roads when I saw a car with trade plates coming towards me.  The Front plate was across the radiator grill but had slipped a little and I could see the growler badge.  The car was in light blue and looked rather like a slightly smaller version of the XF

I wonder   ----  and wished I had a car camera!

    Peter.

  4. Hi Terje,

The s type handbook is quite brief on HID headlamp bulbs.

"Where HID lighting is fitted, refer to you Jaguar Dealer/Authorised repairer if the headlamp fails to operate".

There is als a note "HID Xenon lamp units Type D2S 35 are not renewable, contact your dealer/authorised repairer if the headlamp fails to operate".

I have not seen a description of how to do a replacement for Xenon bulbs anywhere.

    Good luck,

    Peter.

  5. I would be inclined to do with what Nige suggests, plus a squirt 0f WD 40 on the lock itself.

I would also check with the garage that did the body repair as they might have a quick solution.

Garages sometimes make mistakes and over the years I have had several bad ones, such as not making sure the gasket on the Rocker Box was not twisted, and not making sure a real wheel was put on correctly after a puncture repair.

    Peter.

  6. Nige,

There is a page on the Government's Official site somewhere which offers some information.

I have never been into personal number plates, as the administration is quite costly in time, and the plates themselves cost a few shillings

I will go with Trevor on this  and would find it easier and cheaper to change my name by deed poll to fit in with my number plate.

    Peter.

  7. Welcome to the Club, Shane.

There are a lot of people here who will help with an any problems you may have.  But being in Orkney, I hope your heater works well.

I hope you keep enjoying the Jaguar experience and showing the Orcadians the pleasure you get out your rare car in Orkney.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  8. Hi Leon,

I think it could be the gas struts.  Try opening the boot and watch how far it rises automatically, and then see if you could lift it higher by hand.

They are not hard to get hold of and easily replaced.  [They were on my kitchen cupboards, anyway]

    Regards

    Peter.

  9. Hi Simon, and Welcome to the Club.

A 1965 Mk2 Saloon will not be cheap as there is some demand, and as it has been laid up for some time I guess that the restoration would also be expensive.

Wheeler Dealers restored a similar car a couple of years ago which you could get on You Tube.  Watching that will give you some idea of what problems you might encounter.

Let us know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  10. Welcome to the Club, Pete.

I am very sorry to hear about your problems with your XK.

I do tend not to believe what main dealers tell me.  If you can find the part number it may well be a good idea to find out if you can source the part elsewhere and then tell the main dealer where he can get it from.

Meanwhile you are not enjoying the Jaguar as you should be, and I would be inclined to pester the main dealer.  I would also find out the name of the Chief Executive Officer of the main dealer/group, and pester him too.

    Good Luck.

    Peter.

  11. Hi Nige, and welcome to the club.

It is a friendly club and members will share their experiences.

I was 77 when I got my first Jaguar and throughly enjoy the Jaguar experience.

Like you, I don't get oily hands anymore leaving that to those who can both get under the car and get back up!

    Regards,

    Peter.

  12. Becoming 65 you will sometimes be accused of being a grumpy old git.  As from now you are entitled to be one.

Becoming 65 you are entitled to park your car across two spaces so that it doesn't get a dent from some youngster who can open as door properly.

Becoming 65 you are entitled to carry a walking stick and prod things with it.

Becoming 65 you may get a pension from the Government.

Becoming 80 you will get a 25p pay increase from the Government.

Becoming 85 you are still pondering how to spend it.

Best Wishes, and have a good day, Trevor,
