    Hi Joe,

    thanks for the reply.

I had tried to edit my post and delete because i had posted up the incorrect code.My apologies.

The fault code is P1462=Air con pressure sensor circuit low input.

    Thanks

    Graham

  3. Hi everyone,
having gone through the diagnosis and replacement of the DCC Valve and the air con panel i am now getting the fault code
P1642 = Air Con Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input.
Would anyone know the proccess to locate the fault?
I am also getting J1850 which i think maybe its coming up because of the P1642.
Any help would be most grateful.
    Thank You,
    Graham

    I bought this one ->

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AC1LLQY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I rarely use the car, so I pop it out of the garage and leave it to sit for the day with the charger connected. And just in case, I've printed a STOP! warning that sits in front of the speedo in case I attempt to start the engine with the charger plugged into the OBD connector, which is an absolute no-no!

    Cheers, Mark

I also bought this one great idea to plug into OBD port.

    Thanks Graham

    Hi All,

Just acquired a 2006 S type (Automatic) - it seems to be a good one - although there is a slight missing on tickover - also as the mileage is quite high -90,000, should I have the gearbox oil changed?

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

i bought an icarsoft diagnostic tool which has proved a great money saver in terms of identifying faults so i havn't had to buy parts i didn't need.

I had a misfire on my V8 and plugged it in and it identified a coil pack failure on cylinder 1.

I have also used it to check any historic logged codes.

Just had the ABS light come on and the tool has identified left rear speed sensor.

    Enjoy the car.

I performed a fresh install of Windows and of SDD/IDS over a clean installation of XP Pro. No licence issue anymore but still no luck! IDS initialization stops for some reason after the initial IDS launching screen. Very frustrating!

I have investigated further and it seems that the launch of IDS is actually linked to the opening of an exe file called "tabman.exe" found in C:\Program Files\JLR\Runtime. This does not work either if I launch it directly from here.

However - I think that from the logs - I saw that this "tabman.exe" in turns calls a programme called "testman.exe". This one starts properly in my case and I can select .app files that takes me to similar screens as some of the ones seen on the video.

This is not really usable this way, but it gives an idea on what part of the IDS programme does not work.

I will keep on searching although it would be of great help if anyone could share a working image of SDD/IDS... 🙄

Hi,having had experience with the 'tabman.ex' when trying to use the mongoose some years ago the problem turned out to be lack of RAM on the device.

Maybe if you install a  higher RAM it may well cure the problem you have.

    Good Luck.

I had exactly the same problem on my 2004 2.5L S-type SE+ and it turned out to be one of the rear shock absorbers. I had both sides replaced (plus discs & pads) by my local indie, and that cured the problem.

I got my fingers through the spring to touch the shock absorber, and got someone to (gently) compress the suspension (fingers!) and I could feel that it was shot. Obviously I compared that with the opposite side to confirm my suspicions..

I must admit I was somewhat surprised as the car's only got 41K on the clock.

    Cheers, Mark

I have just replaced the rear shocks and suspension bushes on mine Mark when the same test at the indy i used confirmed rear shock on drivers side was

    shot and causing the squeak.

As an S-Type owner, you'll be aware (I guess) of how sensitive the electronics is to low battery voltage. You'll maybe not know though, what you're expected to do after dis-connecting and re-connecting the battery.

I've put together a PDF document which takes you through the procedure step by step. Nothing that isn't readily available elsewhere but just gathered together and (in my view) logically ordered into a single reference.

It also includes how to get the audio system working when you don't have the security code :yahoo:

I've been asked for it so many times that I though I'd make a thread just for access to that document so here it is:-

    Battery reset.pdf

Thanks for posting very useful, but i have the earlier S Type which i think does not have the 'radio fix'.

Is there a procedure for resetting the earlier radio?

Thanks again for posting the info.

    Kind Regards

  9. Today after a nice run down the motorway the EML came up.

After getting home the car didn't tick over as smooth as before i left.

Plugged in code reader and it gave  me a 'Misfire Cylinder 1'.

    Erased code.

So it looks like the coil pack has failed......would that be a good cause?

So which would be Cylinder 1 on a V8? Am i right in thinking its the front left?

I believe an uprated version was introduced any help on this please?

Your help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    Graham

  10. After the recent purchase of my S Type i am now getting down to carrying out its service status.

After checking the Oil,air filter etc.,i thought it best just to see how thorough the servicing has been!

Take a look at the pollen filter pic below:

    pollen1.thumb.JPG.0a107faa50b6a5f25e834493ac746302.JPG

I wonder when the last time that was changed?

Its a little fiddly to change but not difficult.

Dont forget to have new plastic cover clips available as i found that these clips are not reusable.

First rate Graham, did your mechanic offer any suggestions regarding the cause?

A few things really, the material its made up of,its position being bolted straight to the inner wing with vibration, subject to hot and cold temperatures in use.

I believe they moved its position on the later models.

The tank cost me £35 so if it can last 6 months i will be happy.

  12. Hi Jim,

i agree a difficult decision as you say 50% say do and 50% say don't.

But as you say you want to keep it then i think you have made the right decision to have it done.

I have just thought that my wife has got a Mercedes E Class that had a gearbox problem, she had the gearbox

Oil and filter change, all ok for a month then the problem started again. The indy we use stripped the gearbox sent off the gearbox

inner plate for the electronic selector to be changed and all is now well.

I suppose that is another reason why i have come back to an S Type,(less electronics,i know they can be frustrating(see my post on expansion tank issue).

Mine is also going through a rolling recommission, the last owner had it 15years.

    Good Luck.

I always call them, but out of stock is out of stock I guess. They might have an idea on options or when more are coming in etc

They have a waiting list of 30 people, very helpful though, they are trying to see if they can get them manufactured.

Looks like i will hold off spending any money on the S Type until this gets resolved.

    Very disappointed.
