The bolts securing the underside to the splash shield are just turning and not unscrewing.

I'm beginning to wonder whether "please" and "thank you" were just figments of my imagination.

I am involved as an admin on another, non related, but technical forum and just recently I've been noticing the number of times members of that forum demand the answers to questions without a hint of courtesy and, if a good answer is given, can't be bothered to thank the provider of the information in reply.

One particular new forum member has started five different threads in the last 24 hours, each with what I can only describe as a demand for information. So much so that one of the moderators has gently reminded him that it might be prudent to use a little courtesy. This was done by private message rather than embarrass the member by mentioning it publicly.

The reply the moderator received is as follows:- "wot the f*** as it got to do with u" (sic)

Possibility that one of the cd caddies has jammed across to transport mechanism.

If you look along the right hand side of the cartridge you might see it.

One solution that almost always works is to gently tap the cartridge with the head of a screwdriver whilst repeatedly pressing the eject button.

If this is the case and it happens more than once it is a good idea to get another cartridge.

I was lucky enough to find a Powerflow dealer in Stafford when I was doing my Rover 620 turbo who was a real enthusiast.

He even trailered my car to the re-mappers workshop as my insurance company hadn't, at that time, allowed me to insure it for road use.

In the end my insurers put a limit of 350 bhp on it for road use and so when it was remapped to 400 bhp i was only able to try it out on the remapper's test track.

To be fair though, 400 bhp through the front wheels, even with a sorted suspension, transmission and brakes, was a nightmare to control so after I'd had a go, the remapper de-tuned it to 350 bhp which was altogether more useable and allowed me to legally use it for day to day driving.

Mark, there are a lot of myths in the boy racer community about "The size of yer pipe" and so on. Even a full-on performance exhaust system will have very little effect on output power and torque unless lots of other things are also modified to suit.

This of course is my opinion but bear in mind that I took a Rover 620 turbo from 200 to 400 bhp in the past and it took a shed-load of money, work and time :)

So, a simple mild steel to stainless steel back-box replacement will do nothing for performance, ie. no measurable power or torque increase.

In addition, I'd be a little concerned that an insurance company who were being so anal might just be looking for a way out of paying claims.

Who are the insurers please? I feel certain that I would want to avoid them.

Robert, a glowing terminal, wire, earth point or whatever else is caused by the heating effect of too high a current. I suspect that a wiring joint is loose and causing an over current or contamination is causing the same thing. I think that cleaning your terminals and securing them tightly will solve that problem. I think the battery warning light may well be as a result of the same thing.

I changed my bulbs with absolutely no problem without dismantling anything other than lifting the plastic panel across the headlights which is simply four plastic screws.

There's a heck of a lot of tumbleweed floating down the road in this thread :)

That'll be a NO then. Still hoping there is a way which doesn't involve even more damage being caused Andy.

They are designed to help with maintaining the temperature of the engine bay, also to protect components from muck and water ingress. they also reduce noise levels and, most importantly, assist in the aerodynamics of the car.

They are also designed to annoy people because the fasteners rust into their clips resulting in the fasteners twisting uselessly when trying to remove them  

It's the DPF cleaner I'm more interested in Peter. Not that there is a problem but more along the lines of preventative maintenance :D

I've been hearing some good, indeed, rave reports about a roduct called Cataclean.

It has been mentioned on this forum although not in any detail.

It is incredibly easy to sit back and say "snake oil" with no evidence to back it up so I was wondering whether anybody had any experience with it please?

I'd especially be keen to har about the effect of the DPF cleaning version :)

In consultation with Peter, encouraged by the positive feedback from the recent Gaydon meet, I'm putting this idea forward to see what reaction it evokes :D

The idea is for a "Hands on" gathering where we work on each other's cars.

I'm basing my suggestion on the Rover 75 / MGZT West Midlands Nanomeets of which I'm a founding member. These began in a very small way and progressed to be what they are today.

Please can I ask that you have a look at their website to see what I'm on about and the visualise whether it would work for the Jaguar Owners Club.

I will say that it won't be happening this year. Rather too late now as these events are at the mercy of the weather to a large extent (unless somebody knows of a covered area where the event can take place).

As well as enthusiasm, what will be needed is a core of knowledge, skill and ability which can be built upon. So anybody with knowledge and skills to do with the maintenance of our cars plus modification, retro-fits etc please don't hide your light :)

One area wherein I am specifically interested is the use of the SDD diagnostic / setup software. The Rover / MG equivalent is a major attraction at the Nanomeets.

I have the software as do several other members but what I'd like to do is find somebody who knows it well to give us a tutorial, or even a "group muddle through".

I'm sure the basic impetus behind the concept will strike a chord with some of you. That is, you find yourself with a task to do on the car and you have the research and  almost the confidence to carry out the task but you're not quite sure and would value the input of a knowledgeable mate who will pop round and make sure you don't do anything drastic. You know the scenario?

You'd be amazed at what gets done on a regular basis at the Nanomeets and I feel sure this could be extended to our community, starting in a small way with a few cars, possibly at a club member's house, and then expanding as interest (and ability) grows.

Anybody interested?
