  1. Your looking at a couple of hundred quid to have a genuine remap. I would not ever risk plugging one of the ebay devices into a daily driver.
  2. Play it safe and replace your water pump and thermostat. 'Comeline' sell the pump and gasket for £20ish and thermostat is around £30-70 depending on brand. A belt for the pump is £5. Both very easy jobs so should be a low labour charge. I would say 1 hours work.
  3. Hello, I have a jaguar x type s 2.5. The plan is to keep the car for some time as it's got low mileage. I've put two new rear mufflers on it, will need a new center pipe soon. new plugs, filters, serviced once a year, MTEC disks and pads. There is minor cosmetic work but nothing seriously noticeable. I've had the suspension gone over and it's solid but the rear is starting to sound rough. But there's no play in the suspension so nothing can be diagnosed yet. I'm guessing the suspension is the sports version as it feels very rough and hard. Is there a softer alternative? The rear suspension looks simple to work on.
  4. Hello, I was wondering. How does a mot tester check the brakes on a AWD x-type? I never check how last time and I don't think I have a certificate for it.
  5. So should I ignore the pending fault? I thought maybe the ecu had completed its full check but found a very rarely happening fault. Problem I'm experiencing is when the car is up to temp the car gives a few hiccups if I accelerate hard under 2000rpm in 3rd gear at around 30mph, the same with 4th as well. But if I'm above 2000rpm and floor it with enough torque it's fine or if I accelerate slowly it's also fine. Clutch is fine so I'm stumped.
  6. Evening, I have been using my obd reader and I have noticed p1111 always coming up. I've found out that this is a ecu check code. But it also shows pending fault. I've attached two photos. I'm guessing I go with the FORD fault? This may explain my power struggle when accelerating hard at low revs
  7. Well it's comforting to here your reply. I guess I need to learn the cars preference regarding it's acceleration.
  8. Hi, I have a 55 plate x type s 2.5 awd. Can someone tell me what she should idle at when fully warmed up. Mine is just below 900rpm. Also if im in 2nd or 3rd and I put my foot right down she seems to hesitate at around the 2000rpm mark before it accelerates like normal. It feels like a short judder/jump which it does twice before continuing. If I accelerate slowly it doesn't do it. If I race the engine and keep the revs above 2000rpm it's absolutely fine. No lights on the dash board and the clutch feels good still. Just been serviced too. My wife seems to think it's under to much load to accelerate hard under 2000rpm.
  9. Does anyone know what type of clamp us used to join the center exhaust section to the back boxes on a 2.5 x type. To me it looks like both pipes butt together and have some type of sleeve clamp. Need to be sure what type it is because the current one needs to be cut off. Cheers
  10. I've been listening carefully all day and I think I may of narrowed it down to the flexi pipe and possible the center box.
  11. I really hope it's the exhaust. I think I'll get a garage to get it up on the ramps and check it out. Thanks for the replies. I'll leave a post if I ever find out what's wrong. Cheers
  12. Hi, definitely not pinking. I've listened and the engine sounds smooth when stationery. If I change gears at low rpm's it makes no noise at all. If I lift the clutch and accelerate with perfect timing that also makes no noise. But when the car is in motion, if I take my foot of the accelarator and then quickly tap it the noise will re appear. Hardly noticeable when it's cold. Sounds a bit like loose change in a bag. But again no noise when the car is stationary.
  13. Cheers, the center section of exhaust is intact but sounds hollow when I tap it. Hardly made a noise today, but the weather is cooler today.
  14. When I accelarate in first gear from standstill my car makes all the right noises. But when I change up a gear the moment I hit the accelerator it makes a faint rattle that last for about 2 seconds. It only does this at around 1500rpm. Strangely it won't make a single noise in the morning when it's not too hot. Any ideas or similar problems. I have no leaks, warning lights, heat shields seem fine and I can't locate anything else. Performance is perfect as well.

    mpg?

I'm I right? I've worked out that the distance between each white notch on the fuel gauge is 7.6 liters. I'm fascinated with the mpg at the moment. Every time the needle has moved I end up working out the fuel consumption. So far a mates 1.4 vauxhal tigra petrol is consuming more even after a heavy servicing

    mpg?

Did I trip to the ace cafe and back. 76.8 miles there and back which used up 9 litres of petrol. If my maths is right that works out just over 42 mpg. This based on me driving mainly at 60mph and occasionally hitting 70mph.

    mpg?

I have driven my car a bit hard today. Getting up to speed quickly etc. Enough to here the twin pipes thunder and I've still managed 27mpg. Just shows that these big engined cars can return good mpg if you know how to drive them.

    32-35mpg is !Removed! good.

    mpg?

I drive a 2.5 awd as my daily driver (mostly short trips around town etc). I'm getting 27mpg. Haven't done a motorway trip yet. But I've been monitoring my driving distance and fuel gauge for the last few weeks and I'm doing roughly 20 miles a day 5 days a week and that's costing me £20 a week on fuel. Compared to my diesel peugeot 407 the jag has proven more fuel efficient and cheaper to insure for myself. My typical driving style is chauffeur style with the occasional hard acceleration.
  20. Thanks for the replies. I've checked the part numbers with mtec and they both match. Bit of a learning curve at the moment. Makes sense to me to learn what parts are the same. Thanks again for everyone's help.
  21. Hi all. My name is mike, I'm 28 and I own a 2005 x type 2.5 awd. I usually stick to the Japanese stuff but I fancied something different. I've had this car for nearly 3 weeks and it's working out to be cheaper than my pegeout 407 diesal. I will need to get some new discs and pads soon but I wanted to know how similar they are to the mondeo. Reason I asked is because I've got my eye on some drilled and groved discs but they are for a mondeo. the guy wants £40 for the full set do need to act quickly. Cheers
