I gonna have to check and see if I can clear and reset the tranny to my style OR is it a dealer only ?

    Hi

As already said above, the adaptation reset can be done with Jaguar ids/sdd software or with icarsoft LR V2 or V3

Jaguar dealer wont do these any more

will have to be a Jaguar indy

    cheers

  2. Hi

I would only use ZF lifeguard 6, because its never a good idea mixing oils.

would only buy genuine ZF aswell, aftermarket filters allways seem to leak.

Genuine kit comes with Oil, filter, new pins with larger heads and new mecha sleeve, which were prone to leaking on the electric connector.

when you change the Oil, only about 6 litres drains out of the box, about 4 to 5 litres stays in the torque converter.

never known any body have any issues with using zf lifeguard 6, but a lot of people who use a different brand seem to get problems

also, when changing the Oil, ideally you should clear the gearbox adaptations, so the gearbox learns how to shift again and you get smoother shift, sometimes putting fresh, slightly thicker oil in, can make the gear changes quite harsh, also reseting the adaptations can only be done with software like Jaguar ids/sdd and some icarsofts, disconnecting the battery does nothing. Adaptation reset is allways done if the service is done at jaguar.

also if your getting harsh shifts, if the gearbox has never been updated, software update can cure this, last update was 2009, my car was a 2004 and had its original 2004 software, updating mine cured the surging/hunting when it was cold at around 30 to 40 mph.

  3. HI

Make sure you put a inline fuse on the positive lead, as close to the battery as possible

if it get trapped for any reason, it will pop the fuse, otherwise it will catch fire

these leads should be supplied with a inline fuse

Ive used CTEK smart chargers for years and can be left on long term, anything above 3amp ideally, CTEK is what all the manuafacters use, Jaguar, Aston, BMW, Porsche, Rolls Royce. I use the Jaguar CTEK in mine, as it comes with a dedicated socket for the boot, so you just plug it in without the need to move anything.

Also the Jaguar CTEK is fully automatic, just plug in and go, no buttons to press, if you get a power cut, it just starts again , no need to go back in and press any buttons.

    cheers

  4. Hi

By the sounds of it the transponder chip has fell out of the fob when you have take the key/remote apart

the battery only effects the opening and closing of the car doors, starting is by a transponder chip in the remote, there two types of transponder chip and small black plastic type chip, about 10mm long and a cylindrical glass type chip, if it wont start this is missing

you need to find it and slot it back in the key part of the remote/key

pics below, but the are only about 10mm long

    cheers

  5. hi

Ideally you need to plug in and see what faults you get, they should point you to the right direction

if coolants ok, could be a bad coolant level sensor or waterpump, plugging in should tell you and you could also monitor the cooland temp, as the gauges on most jaguars dont show correct temp, they just a visual indicator, the either show normal or full, high temp, there usually no in between, but with a diagnostic tool you can actually monitor the actual temperature

    cheers

    Guys,

My 5 Ltr AWD F Type went in for the 40K Mile Service last week, unfortunately though, whilst carrying out a Brake Fluid replacement which I hadn't requested,  (Just part of the Service Sir!) they have managed to snap off one of the bleed nipples, OK, enough of a problem with Standard Callipers however, my vehicle has the full Jaguar Carbon Ceramic Brembo option!

Has anyone got/had any experience with the same issue?  The garage says that they can be drilled out, helicoiled and a new replacement bleed nipple inserted, sounds easy enough however, with the cost for a new calliper block (Jaguar Main Agent, just over 1500 quid, those of a cynical disposition might comment, well they would say that wouldn't they!!)

I am not convinced that this would be either a safe or even viable option, all or any sensible comments would be gratefully received.

    Many Thanks.

    Hi

take the caliper off and send it to Big Red, they refurbishi calipers to new condition and they do that sort of job every day and would only cost a few hundred pounds to fix, phone them and they will give you a price, quick turn around aswell

    cheers

  7. Hi Chris

yes its one of a few preproduction prototypes which were registered in 2001,

sure there were only a few registered in 2001, not all are still shown on the road

I have a 2004 S-type R and love it, great cars and underated, mines been extremely reliable

if you want any links to workshop manual and info let me know

    cheers

  8. Its hit and miss with batteries, they all have deals on at certain times

I just bought a Varta 019 AGM from BMS and it was £20 cheaper than Tanya

great service though, they always come next day.

  9. hi

all s-types have the same wheel base so later ones wont be different

some S-type have adjustable pedals, which will only give you a extra few inches, did you lift the steering column and send the steering wheel in aswell

as mentioned you could make adapter plates.

    cheers

  10. Hi

common place for water in the boot on S-types is above the rear lights, there a infill piece of rubber across the top of the lights, its very common leak.

usually fix is remove the lights and clean it all up, then reseal the upper rubber seal on the light with some silicone and that cures it

    cheers

  11. HI

For most of the awkward bolts, I bought Facom rotator ratchets, I was that impressed with them I got all 3 sets, 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2"

basically its like a normal ratchet, but you can also just rotate the handle and the socket spins, its save me a lot of hassel on my S-type R, especially when doing the valley pipe, when ive done timing belts on various cars its saved me hours in work.

also using a wobble extension on the socket also means you can get the socket on the bolt at various angles

  12. Hi,

You wont get bored of it, had mine nearly 10 years and its been one of the most reliable cars I've owned.

its been well looked after though, but it always manages to put a big smile on my face.

The two best mods are the stainless exhaust, make the car's supercharged V8 sound like it should, great burble and the Jagdroid stereo, bringing the stereo up to modern times, with android 13 and all the features of a modern phone in the car, with the OE Jaguar look.
