as for your limp mode? look to see what kind of turbo actuator you have? if its one like this the mechanism inside fails and stops working...which then puts the car into limp mode but may also give a glowplug warning light too. so you need to buy a new one and fit .. easy to do job. cost of actuators vary around from £75 to £100.... right if it is this one check to make sure that the actuator arm moves from the unit to the turbo unit? if not then this is definitely the actuator unit that has broke and needs replacing with a new unit.

you do not have to depressurise the fuel system, there is a screw underneath so you can drain the diesel out first from the filter if need be? but make sure you have a container and some rags handy, plus rubber gloves as diesel spillage for when you remove the clips.! take a photo or draw a diagram so you know where the clips go for when you place them back on the new filter.( in the right order) then turn the car over until it starts... may take a while for the diesel to get through so do be patient.

i would first check for diesel/fuel at the injectors, plus correct pressure too. change fuel filter, check all air sensors, along with air filter, EGR valve cleaned and check for correct operation under vacuum pressure. then connect up to ECU (electronic control unit) which after all of the checks done above should give you a closer pinpoint of any other problems if any? good luck ..... dave

i can now say that both of the discs and calipers plus wheels are now fitted on the front, and did a road test for braking ... good but still need to bed in as I only went round our block, no noise yet? but not done any heavy braking and hope not too. but when all front brakes bedded in, i will try and do one when the roads are quiet and safe to do so.....! To see and feel how they react! but at the moment I'm a happy old gent with a big smile :-) hope that answers your question joe....regards dave.

sorry joe, still doing the passenger side as ive only done the one side up till now. but I have taken note as to what you have posted and will let you know how it all drives and brakes when all complete, cheers dave.

I got round to fitting new front discs & pads on my x type 2.0d (54 plate) as it was an advisory on the MOT, (inside of discs are ribbed) so after removing wheel and caliper, plus the discs I got down to cleaning the caliper and stripping off rust with my dremel with diamond tip attachments, also with a grinding tool attachment too, which taken hours to do! then a can of brake cleaner, which cleaned off dust. then cans of spray paint to give a nice new look on the calipers... but patience pays off ? then it was on to fitting the new disc and doing a "run out" test with a dial gauge. the max of run out with new disc is 0.15mm...... mine ran out to 0.05mm to 0.08mm and was the same for both sides. happy with the results of the run out test I then started to fit everything back...many other checks were done too, besides of new brake fliud, piston inspection and movement, sleeve seals, and all rubber boots. here are some photos....enjoy :-)

great job looking at the photo, not many of us about as you say? as I'm doing my front brakes even now with new vented discs and new pads to fit but this is all ive done so far (pic) as my caliper is still attached. this is drivers side ,hope to get the caliper to look the same painted. will post more photos when done. good luck with fitting yours when it comes to installing them. dave.

as it says reprogram the injectors with all codes using a computer that links up to the ecm.

FuelInjectors
The fuel injectors are operated electrically by the engine control module (ECM) and inject a precise amount of fuel into the combustion chamber at the required time.
The injectors have been designed to:
allow pilot and main injections with short intervals between each injection. be fully electrically controlled.
Each injector is calibrated and given its own unique identification number at manufacture. The identification number is a set of letters and numbers located near to the top of the injector.
CAUTION: If any of the high pressure fuel pipe retaining nuts are loosened, the high pressure fuel pipe it is installed to must be renewed. Failure to follow this instruction may allow metal fragments to enter the fuel system and result in damage to the fuel system components.
When the injectors are fitted to an engine, the injector identification number and the cylinder number to which it is installed must be programmed into the ECM. This gives the ECM a base calibration for each cylinder of the engine, as the vehicle is run the ECM will adapt from this calibration. If any of the injectors are replaced the ECM will have to be reprogrammed with all of the injector identification numbers and cylinder number to which each is fitted. hope this has helps.....dave -
had a slow o/s front puncture so out came the car pump to get its correct psi, and then off to get it fixed. but when checking the n/s rear wheel the brass outer thread on the valve had broke just leaving the inner valve sticking out. off to a tyre place asap, well the guys where great and fitted a new valve on the rear wheel and balanced, along with taking the front tyre off and checking tyre wall and wheel rim but found no problems? so new valve fitted and tyre replaced along with both front wheels being balanced. total cost £15 what a great deal and a good job done as all wheels are now fine.

dean,.. sounds like this car has not had much TLC but if you read through some of the previous posts on the X TYPE SITE you may get help from reading there experiences ? it does help putting you in the right direction as to how it may help. good luck with the repairs....dave

this is nothing to worry about, as this is the in cabin "ambient air temperature sensor" if you look at the steering wheel in your car, you should notice a very small vent about 1" square? this is the sensor. I sometimes blow it through with a can of "air duster" which you use on a computer keyboard,

Electronic Turbo Actuator for Jaguar X Type. look this up on eBay and read what it says. it may help ? giving you more understanding of what it may be. ! as you may not need a new turbo, because usually when a turbo goes it smokes like a chimney, then take the car to someone who specialise in auto gearboxes, they should also know what the cause is due to gearbox fault.
-
if this is still giving you problems and you feel that what ever path you try nothing seems to work! get a auto electrician who will go through your car testing it from the ignition right through until they find what is the cause.
