Xk8 convertible Rear seat cover & car cover
N6 JMX replied to Mark Saville's topic in XK / XKR (X150) 2006 - 2014
Hi Mark, if your car is 2009, then it is an XK and NOT an XK8 - the production of the XK8 finished in 2005. Your profile photo is also of the XK - or as it was called at the launch "The New XK". Going forward, both of you above have the Jaguar model X-150 - 2006 - 2014, as opposed to the X-100, which was the 1996 - 2005 model designation. External car covers are what they are and, good or bad, they will flap around in the wind and mark your paintwork, so get a good coat of wax on the body before placing the car cover on top. Hi Jim, you can wash the fabric top in almost the same manner as the remainder of the bodywork, i.e. with a quality car shampoo in a bucket of warm water and a microfibre mitt. I have had convertible fabric tops on my cars for a long time and, believe it it not, I do power wash the roof but obviously not using the full beans output of the power washer. Angle the flat spray so as to sweep across the top, moving the soapy suds over the top until there is no residue. Then get a clean, lint free, type cotton towel - typically an old bath towel, although a microfibre drying towel will also work, and dry the fabric by drawing the towel across the car as opposed to along the car, you will see the effect after the first sweep, but use 2 passes. I also use Meguiars convertible top protector to top up the waterproofing - it beads just like the paintwork but disappears quicker than your waxed areas. I actually produced an article for the JE magazine a few years back, which if you want to PM me with your email address, I can send you a copy. N6 JMX

XKR rear boot badges enamel re-instatement
N6 JMX replied to Spyderromeo's topic in New Members Introductions
Hi Jim, I believe the original colour highlights within the rear badge on the XKR were not paint, but sticky back plastic, a la Blue Peter. They do lift at the corners and ultimately come off during washing. Suggest you find some suitable plastic and glue this back in place to complete the look. N6 JMX - Yesterday

I'd have a look online in your home area (it says non-UK so no idea where in the world you are) and find a Dexron VI compatible fluid and use that, especially if you plan on periodic part-changes or full changes to maintain it. A quick search revealed that Pentosil #1 is a "life-time fluid" so is likely to be more expensive and won't necessarily last the life of your box. I'd prefer to do a part-change once a year or so to maintain the fluid than use a "lifetime fluid" that maybe breaks down and kills my gearbox. Each to their own though.......

Thank you Jimbov! Exactly whats needed. Cheers

Xj8 x308 front wings
John Christopher Knowles replied to steavewilcox's topic in Members Misc Items For Sale
Hi, are these wings still available? regards john -
Mark Just responded to your cover request I hope it answers your question, it really does do the job nicely. We obviously have similar ideas onward next to the corrosion It's not my first job as the subframes on my XKR have been Lanogarded they haven't been done long hence the lack of urgency, whilst I find out how good it is. I have been a motorist a long time and Waxoyl has always been around and I have never heard a word of complaint, however I noticed Lanogard recently once again no words of negativity, but I don't know if one is better than the other, if you get any feedback please forward it as I will be making my decision in the next few months. You’re very welcome Paul.👍

Try this first, move the seat forward so that the seat has room to recline as far as possible and then recline the seat but hold the switch down for at least 5 seconds once it has reached its limit. Then try and recline forward to its limit and hold again for at least 5 seconds. If this does not work then you will be forced into a recalibration by a dealer or independent specialist.

back in the 70's neighbour had a dark red XJ that we used to stare at as kids. mesmerised that it had dual fuel tanks, which as a kid was very cool. Smell of the creaky leather.. nice.

Hi Martin I am Jim or Spyderromeo I have owned both car and can comment on both the X308 was my chariot for 23 years I bought it new in 2000 for £54.000and sold it last year for £250 as a bag of rust, the outside looked the same as it came out of the factory, but the underside was like a piece of lace curtain. But it was the best car I ever owned ask me anything you want about ownership. I now own a XKR but I can only comment on a few very exciting weeks of ownership, The only negative I can say about owning one is the stupid and ridiculous price of road tax. but I could say the same about the X308. The XKR has all the signs of being the best car in the world for the price. if it carry's on like it has done I will be very happy. Spyderromeo

There is just a possibility that you have programmed the boot lid to not open properly/ fully: try opening the boot to its full height and pressing and holding for 10 seconds the boot close button: if it has been programmed to open to any other point on the cycle, this should reset it.

Jimbov you are an absolute star! the first few mins of the video show exactly what I wanted. It even had a little tip to stop damage to the chrome on the plastic next to it. Thank you I just wasn't sure anyone would answer such a random question never mind such a fabulous accurate close up how to do it. Providing the weather is okay I will change over to a nice new shiny chrome number plate area. It is a new car to me and when I bought it the paintwork on the whole light cluster was a bit rough and really the only item that needed attention. Thanks again Spiderromeo

The one I have installed (2013 XF Luxury) is at this link. It works well, and I know others have installed it into XFs too. It is a little fiddly to fit but I would say I was very average at stuff like that and managed it fine. There is a good YouTube installation walkthrough available.

New or Recon Auto Gear boxes for 2.5 S type
JustBadly replied to Stephen Warner's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
The ZF 6HP26 is so reliable few people have ever asked. The most common fault is when a garage runs the engine without any oil in the transmission. This breaks the pump in the transmission, I have heard of a fire in the transmission that cooked 3rd and 4th. Otherwise a service changing the filter and fluid fixes it. What's the problem? -
Thanks for the replies, refurb will happen when the tyres are due a chance, will get them colour matched for a touch up first. Happy safe motoring Terry
