Oil smell in cabin when sitting idle
LEE.XF.R.SPORT replied to LEE.XF.R.SPORT's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Hi. It has been getting worse over the last few weeks. I took the oil cap off the car today while it was running and there seems to be a lot of blow by. Im hoping it's a blocked breather -

Hi Lee, you don't say whether this has just started or has been with the car since it came to you. Is it hot oil smell, or simply an oily smell as you would get with a spill of fresh oil onto the carpet? N6 JMX

Hello boys and girls. Im getting an oil smell in the car when at rest. Is this a known problem? I find people on forums are fountains of knowledge. This is my first jaguar. It's a 2.0 r-sport. Im just hoping it's not the ingenium kiss of death. The service history on line is bang up to date. Next oil change on the app says 10145 miles but I'm going to get an oil change done anyway the last was sept last year.

I am new to the club and hope someone has this part or information leading to the part I need for my S-Type 2002 v6 3.0. I cannot find a harmonic balance pulley as mine is wore out. Please respond if you have ideas or one just sitting around in your garage somewhere.

Hi Jim , thanks for message , sorry if i'm being thick but what is JDHT?? -
Hi to all of you.. I need, if possible, a quick answer to this question: Is it possible to replace the timing chain without removing the engine from the car? My mechanic doesn't know if it's possible and the price of the intervention depends on this variable. please help me..!

Hi David, get on to the JDHT and get yourself a Heritage Certificate if there is not one already with the car/ This will give lots of information on the build and initial delivery. N6 JMX

Electrical issues or are they ?
Brian Gatehouse replied to Brian Gatehouse's topic in XK / XKR (X150) 2006 - 2014
Good afternoon and thank you again, for your help with this. I will give it a go and keep my fingers crossed. Failing that I will try and find a garage as you say. I will keep you posted. Regards Brian. -
Electrical issues or are they ?
N6 JMX replied to Brian Gatehouse's topic in XK / XKR (X150) 2006 - 2014
Hi Brian, again the listing of the faults all point to a battery voltage issue - as I said, extremely sensitive to voltage fluctuations. As I am sure you are aware, in a Modern XK, the battery's ability to start the car is no longer the best indicator of a good battery in situ. In my own case, even if not using the car for a few days, I get it hooked up to the battery conditioner, which in my case is preferred the Ring Automotive Smart Charger type RSC 612, but others prefer the Ctek option. Unfortunately you need to get your car to a suitable garage, one that has access to the Autologic or Jaguar Diagnostic equipment as I suspect one, or more, of the electronic modules has corrupted as a consequence of the dead battery and will need to be reset. Obviously with a seized brake calliper, the car would need to be recovered either on a flatbed, or by a raised rear tow dolly. Before that, try a "Hard Reset" of the car / battery. Disconnect both leads from the battery terminals and then touch them together - capacitance discharge. Wait for around 10 minutes and then reattach the leads to the battery and see what the car tells you. If it comes alive, try and take a 10 mile drive without adjusting anything - even window settings - as this allows the car to relearn its modes. Good luck. N6 JMX -

Good afternoon and thank you for your help with this. I did not use the car for a couple of weeks and when i tried to the battery was completely dead , it was only a two year old battery as well. And would not recharge Yes the battery is brand new and fully charged, it is all very weird. When I did replace the battery the first issue was the Bluetooth function stopped working then ABS, DSC etc. Regards Brian. -
I have inherited my husbands XK auto sports. It’s a beautiful car , gold with cream interior. 50,000 miles only with a full service history and recent service and MOT. I have two other cars and would like to sell it . Can you help me with advice on how much I should ask and how to do so?

oops 😉 haven't seen alarm off procedure myself, would be interesting to see.

That where I have a problem, the manual I have gives many different settings for the alarm, including pressing a button inside, the door unlock button, it all seams a little vague Also I am not 100% certain the manual i got with the car is the right one for this car. There a few other things i have looked up and have not worked, like memory seats.....nearly crushed myself on the steering wheel!

N6 JMX replied to Brian Gatehouse's topic in XK / XKR (X150) 2006 - 2014
Hi Brian, sounds quite serious, but I suspect they may well be electrical related - the battery on a Modern XK is a central part of its nervous system. You say your battery "died", is the replacement new and fully charged? The faults you experienced with ABS, DSC, etc, are all symptomatic of a poor battery, unable to provide a stable voltage to the sensitive electronics. It may be the case with brakes that the electronic parking brake (EPB) has been stuck on due to a poor signal associated with the battery condition, you are likely going to need access to a full Jaguar or Autologic diagnostic equipment to fully check and reset the brain of the car. Good luck and please report back any progress. N6 JMX
