  4. Great stuff two of them sorted but where do you get Fabsil I have never seen it. ( loved the psalm though what number is it? I wonder) Is there anything out there that helps with fade caused by ultra-violet (sun) I put a bit of black into my shoes now and again. Jim

  6. Excuse me I am new here and I bet you all have made your own comments about the change to "jaguar" lower case whispered and in pink. What a load of tosh. We don't need to go this way. We will have synthetic petrol forever you know, we will grow it! and it's even greener than electric. see Christian Von Koenigsegg rants about it (I thought about it before him but he is slightly more well known) so we don't need to go electric unless unless you really want just a means of getting from A to B and believe it or not some do!! or you are a David millipede supporter and they are becoming a rare breed. They are giving them electronic sound already you know, as people are missing the "engine" in motor car That means great thunderous, flame snorting Blower Jaguars can lead the way into the future. I am maybe a little different to a lot of you but I have just purchased my LAST Jag (I am 75, still 35, in the brain, and they want to take my licence away anyway) It is a !Removed! marvel of a machine a XKR 4.2 "Blower" convertible with a flappy paddle gear change. There, got that lot of my chest! but I am a great reveler in and on You Tube, and there is consistently a you tuber who puts out fabulous portrayals of car from the past, he, she or they, take a classic and I guess Photoshop modernise, it, see the video "The 2026|Jaguar GT Is Finally Here" I thought Ian Callum was a good designer, but in his absence I would swap for this guy, whoever he is any day. Let me know what you think. By the way one of my foibles is the fact that I am one of the senior engineers responsible for the TR6, and the Dolomite, BIW only. So you can make any comments based on this fact. Jim
  7. Have a look at this, Jim, it has all the information you need. https://www.jaguarforum.com/posts/1687397/
  8. I am new to fabric rag tops in days of old they were vinyl now they are fabric. So can anybody tell me how to look after my soft top? ideally I would like to clean and protect but I would also like to keep the colour bright I have a black top and my thoughts say it must be possible to keep the black from having a faded look. I don't know what the clubs principles are on mentioning trade names but I would like to to know were what and how plus price Jim 2
  9. I believe the later S Types use a ZF gearbox so you should be fine with a Dexron 6 fluid or equivalent. Is there a reason cited for the use of Pentosil #1?

  11. OK as you guys were so helpful on my previous question here is another one I have a 2006 S Type R I am changing the transmission Filter and solenoid block then refilling with fluid (yes I have done S Types before) BUT I keep reading I should use Pentosil fluid number 1 does anyone know if I must and if not and I use regular ATF ? Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks guys for your responses.
  13. Hopefully that's the answer but I've been at this for 6 weeks constantly blaming myself now I can blame JLR thanks👍
  14. The whole of anything Jaguar related to JLR is down due to the hack. Should be back to normal I about 2 weeks we are told.
  15. XKL X351 portfolio 3L needs to update maps and infontain system. The car says its a fault at here maps ,here maps say its infontain issue, jaguar says nothing can be done. Any ideas . I've tried lots, many things . Infontain system works, sim card works, here maps work but not live.

  22. You’re very welcome Paul.👍
  23. Hi Paul, welcome to the wonderful world of XKR motoring, I hope you have many happy, top down miles. The answers above are good, but my recommendation is to use the charger connected as follows: Lift the boot floor and you will see an earth connection - looks like a threaded screw coming up from the boot floor - down on the left hand side as you look forward. Ensure you remove the paint to get a proper connection to earth / ground, fit the black clip. Remove the vent louvre on the left hand side panel of the boot as you look forward and, with a torch, check inside and down for the battery remote positive cable, which should have its termination covered with a rubber boot. Slide the rubber boot forward, off the terminal and you will fit the red clip here. Ensure your charger / conditioner is on the 12V setting. and switch on. There is plenty enough "give" in the boot edge seal so that the charger itself remains outside the car, with the charging leads passing over the seal with the boot lid closed. As an aside, the usual 2 x battery conditioner's used by enthusiasts are: The CTEK MXS 5 or the Ring Automotive RA-RSC 612, both of which are suitable for 5.0 litre engines like yours. My preference is the Ring Automotive, because its LCD screen provides ongoing information on the state of your battery and it has more features. Plus the Ring Automotive unit can be switched to cater for AGM batteries - as used in Stop - Start engine systems. Please note, the battery in your car should be considered as a "Consumable" and you should be looking to change / replace when it gets to 5 years old. The car is extremely sensitive to battery condition, with a failing battery able to throw up numerous random / false dash light and messages. The battery's ability to start the car is no longer the best pointer to its condition. Enjoy. N6 JMX
  24. Depending where exactly the material has come loose, you may be able to make an in-situ repair using adhesive carpet spray - hold the headlining away from the backing board (biscuit) and spray some glue onto the biscuit. Let the glue "flash off" then carefully and progressively fit the liner back onto it. I've used this trick on many cars over the years and it usually works well. However, if yours is truly horrible, you may have to bite the bullet and take the complete headlining down.
  25. Does any know how to remove the sunroof liner, my lining is lose, and it would be great if I could take it out to repair, but it looks like I might have to tuck it or remove the whole headlining, not something I want to do. Help Gary
  26. HI Make sure you put a inline fuse on the positive lead, as close to the battery as possible if it get trapped for any reason, it will pop the fuse, otherwise it will catch fire these leads should be supplied with a inline fuse Ive used CTEK smart chargers for years and can be left on long term, anything above 3amp ideally, CTEK is what all the manuafacters use, Jaguar, Aston, BMW, Porsche, Rolls Royce. I use the Jaguar CTEK in mine, as it comes with a dedicated socket for the boot, so you just plug it in without the need to move anything. Also the Jaguar CTEK is fully automatic, just plug in and go, no buttons to press, if you get a power cut, it just starts again , no need to go back in and press any buttons. cheers Joe
  27. Hi Paul I am told that there is an easier solution, I have just acquired a XKR 4.2 supercharged convertible and when I bought it, the seller explained to me how to do the charging/conditioning with connection in the louvre covered panel just behind the rear lights on the left hand side of the boot. If this comment works some clever feller will answer it and I won't have to ring my seller and say I can't remember how to do it. I will keep looking and if you don't get a reply, I will ring my man up and eat a bit of humble pie. I will then tell you how you can do it slightly easier than Jim has proposed. Jim seems to be on the ball, but I think the photos were of a coupe not a convertible. Jim but Spiderromeo also
  28. Try this first, move the seat forward so that the seat has room to recline as far as possible and then recline the seat but hold the switch down for at least 5 seconds once it has reached its limit. Then try and recline forward to its limit and hold again for at least 5 seconds. If this does not work then you will be forced into a recalibration by a dealer or independent specialist.
