Windscreen wipers problem on 2011 Jaguar XF Portfolio 3.0D S
Big John replied to Limbo's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi Ted On re-reading your original post I think you are saying that the wipers can be operated by applying a live feed to the motor. If your terminals in the CJB look ok perhaps it is the stalk switch itself that is the problem? My thoughts on the parking brake light is that it may be due to a low battery if you were fiddling about for a while with the ignition on. Low battery voltage is well known to cause random warning lights. Have you read / had read any codes stored? It is always possible that a new parking brake fault developed coincidentally but it does seem unlikely. Have you tried charging the battery and clearing any codes? John -
Windscreen wipers problem on 2011 Jaguar XF Portfolio 3.0D S

Hi John, Thanks for your response. I visually examined the connector and the in-situ associated socket on the board and they show no signs of staining or moisture ingress. I therefore assumed, rightly or wrongly, that this would tend to suggest that there has been no water ingress. I have attached some extracts from an associated thread from another jag forum which shows the type of socket staining indicative of water ingress. I am just trying to establish whether I'm barking up the wrong tree by concentrating on the water ingress fault and should be looking at other potential causes which may be causing the inoperative wiper motor fault. Thanks Ted Drivers Footwell CJB - Extract from Water Ingress Thread .pdf -

Hi Ted The fact you "generated" a new fault by disconnecting and reconnecting the connector suggests corrosion on terminals which may well be due to water ingress. Have you tried disconnecting, examining and cleaning the terminals and then re-connecting? John - Yesterday

Windscreen wipers problem on 2011 Jaguar XF Portfolio 3.0D S
Limbo replied to Limbo's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi Dave, Ted Here, Fuse was checked by Breakdown assistance and later by me and original specialist. Weather wasn't cold when driving and wipers first stopped. Only checked 30A green fuse in engine bay unit. Thanks for your response, comments on any more possibilities would be welcomed please. Cheers for now, Ted -

Windscreen wipers problem on 2011 Jaguar XF Portfolio 3.0D S

Has anybody thought to check the fuse? We've had a lot of cold weather lately and it's all too easy for the wiper blades to freeze to the screen without anybody realising and hit the wipers to shift the "condensation". Result - overload the wiper motor and pop the fuse. -
Hi All, My windscreen wipers suddenly stopped working whilst driving home. Pulled into the next services and awaited assistance. After a long wait, help arrived but to no avail. Managed to drive home in dry conditions. Booked car in with local Jag specialist. Car checked out and wiper motor proved to be operational after gaining access and isolating to test. On reassembly wipers still not operational via stalk switch. Specialist suspected water ingress problem in Control Junction Box in drivers footwell but didn't have gear or time to sort out problem and suggested I contact another specialist to fully diagnose problem, change CJB if necessary, and re-programme if necessary. Contacted recommended specialist but booked up over Christmas period. I checked out the various Jag forums and found details of the 'common' water ingress problem with the drivers footwell CJB caused by leaky washer pump 'wicking' internal water ingress via cabling. On pulling the typical connector involved and examining the connector and footwell CJB board socket there was no 'typical' evidence of staining or damage caused by the proposed water ingress problem. I reconnected the connector, turned on the ignition and tried operating the wipers again to no avail. However a warning light came up indicating a parking brake issue which was not there before. Can anyone please provide any useful advice on this please as I do not see the point of putting the car into another specialist when it seems that the 'typical' water ingress fault does not appear to apply. Any potential pointers to other causes would be very helpful (have checked wiper fuse but not relays etc.). Thanks in advance. Ted

Hey everyone. so new to the whole jag forum. Actually BMW M car guy - but helping a good friend with revitalising his Jag XK 4.2 (2007). It's a one owner LHD car from new. with a lot of miles! Anyway we're looking to bring it back to life... we have engine issues. 1. Firstly are there any Scotland based outfits who are familiar with XKs? 2. And if not who would you recommend if the car was located near London. I suspect we may need a full engine rebuild. But whatever we do we want to update the power significantly (while keeping reliability and drivability. Alternatively we would consider a 5.0 engine swap (new or low mileage - with history fully tracked). Based on these options - what is possible? switching engines from a 4.2 to a 5.0 litre - is this even possible? And if it is has anyone done it, and post swap were there any issues? And who would be good to carry this work out? Time frame and cost? Additional questions: 3. Has anyone done a manual transmission swap on XK? If not, is it possible? 4. Can you recommend revised suspension all round - not necessarily want to change the feel - but we want it driving like new again - so question is do we upgrade to something else? OR just get OEM parts again / Or do we swap to XKR arms/suspension etc. 5. Carbon Ceramics - is this possible? has anyone done it - and what brand? 6. Any recommendations for body work - if we wanted to refresh the front grill fascia / with the refreshed XK front grill bumper - is this a straight swap? Or are there alternative grill options for a 2008 model. 7. Interior - any reupholsters that might be recommended And in case you're wondering why not just buy a nearly new XK - its sentimental value - owned for 20 years - we ideally want to bring it back to life for the next 20 years. This will all be documented - we'd like to get everything done and complete with 12 months. But we will only share the entire process once we've completed.

I have just purchased a 3.o V6 diesel Xf premium luxury on a 59 plate with 85K on the clock. The alternator went invite first week but I and although that cost 3hrs on the side of dual carriage way, 2hrs of which I was sitting in the back of a police car, my spirits are not dampened regarding Jaguar ownership!!! As an experienced petrol head I know of most generic problems with older cars like cam belts and so on, but are there any specific/idiosyncratic Jaguar issues I need to be aware of??? Thank you in advance for any help/guidance G

Hi all my f-pace has a really strange issue so recently the engine management light came on I have a pal who works for a motoring organisation who connected his computer to the obd port which flagged up a faulty cam position sensor. He cleared the fault but we noticed that after locking the car the hazard triangle and the 2 front door lock lights stayed on resulting in a flat battery we’ve been monitoring this problem for a couple of weeks now. So in summary if I don’t clear the fault the battery is fine but as soon as we clear the fault the car won’t shut down after it’s locked resulting in a flat battery the following morning. I have bought a new battery and it has been in to a main dealer where they monitored it for 48 hours they used I believe it’s called a peakascope that basically said that everything was shutting down as it should..hoping someone can shead some light on this problem for me,thanks Tony

Temperature gauge irregular: can it hurt the dpf?
LairdScooby replied to JGO's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Not that familiar with the diesel engines but usually temp sensors are on the head, usually one or the other near the thermostat housing. If you had dislodged something there's a fair chance the gauge wouldn't be working at all and you'd have error codes flashing at you on the instrument panel. -
Ok thanks for that tip I’ll give it a go. Out of interest where would the temp sensor be situated? Wondering if I’ve dislodged something if it’s external to the main block etc

Temperature gauge irregular: can it hurt the dpf?
LairdScooby replied to JGO's topic in Jaguar XF Club
It does sound as if you have a weak thernostat there Jason but you are quite correct, DPF regeneration doesn't normally occur until the engine reaches a minimum temperature. Often what works is manually selecting a lower gear to drive in and drive at motorway speeds in that gear so the revs are much higher than normal for the speed. This should also bring the engine temperature up a bit. -

Driving around in the city with all the traffic stops/starts and slow momentums my 2019 XF gets to temperature (on the digital gauge) and stays there, but within 10 minutes of dual carriageway or motorway speed the temperature dial drops down to the 'blue' on the dial and just hovers there. Also noticed the stop/start is not kicking in. How is one supposed to clear out the DPF if the temperature isn't correct. Otherwise all things relative, car purring like the cat it is 👌 Any pointers really welcome, thanks.

I had the same problem, there is a water hose at the rear of the engine which you can reach from under the car if you remove the engine bay floor pan. Tricky but doable.
