Poor Headlight Brightness _ Help Please

Featured Replies

I love my X-Type estate to bits, but one thing I'm going to have to get sorted out is the headlights. Coming home late I was shocked just how poor they were. Even on main beam they were not as good as my old ZT on dipped. I would welcome any thoughts as to what the problem may be or what I could do to improve them. It's a 2005 diesel if that makes any difference. Many thanks, Phil

Hi Phil,

My X Type headlights usually had to be supplemented by my fog/driving lights.

It could be that the lens's need cleaning or the other solution could be a change of bulb to those bright ones.

The terra clean I has made a tremendous difference, even to my newish engine.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Phil if the lamps are working ok have the front lenses clouded over a bit you can re- polish them with toothpaste to bring back to new

Have a check on the adjustment as some time they have broken and you don't get all the light you should have

all the best CW

Could be dulled lenses, as mentioned above. If you end up upgrading the bulbs, I recommend Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited. Awesome bulbs, and every bit as white as HID's without the problems.

Hi I've had 2 x type's and the lights are shockingly poor I have upgraded both cars using the Osram Nightbreaker bulbs and they do the job at about £20 they're worth it. But changing the bulbs is a bugger of a job as the space is quite cramped for bigger hands.

My 2004, 2.0D SE had awful brightness and lenses were clouded.

Sorted lenses with OralB whitening toothpaste, and replaced dips and mains for Osram Nightbreaker +.

Changing the lamps was a real pain, but persevere and after scuffed wrists and bleeding thumbs your lights will be superb.

phil do what andrew has done and upgrade to the oslam nightbreaker bulbs you can get them at halfords and for a couple of quid they will fit them to. charlie

Where can the Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited be obtained, please? Which ones (I see there are H1, H3, H7, H11, HB3) and will I need some form of an adapter to fit them to my x-type, please?

Thanks

Shaun

EDIT: Purchased some already, thank you.

Hi, Changed my dipped headlight bulbs to Halfords H1 As you say its a awkward job but worth it. Paid £27 each but they had a buy one get one free day!!

Cheers
