Is there some way to listen to the radio without everything else coming on?

The start button without brake press seems to be the equivalent of a key operated vehicle's ignition position, whereby everything starts except the engine. If the equivalent of the accessory position is available, I can't find it.

My S type [2007] has the antiquated key to start the car.  Position 1 lets the radio etc come on without starting the engine.  I don't know why Jaguar changed it.

But there will be other XF drivers who might know.

Amanda,

I've often wondered that, on my XKR .

Quite often i've come out of a shop and the wife has everything switched on (via the start button as you stated ) along with various messages such as " Battery Low" ( it isn't) , and "The system will be shut down and you will be shot to preserve the battery "

Quite irritating ( and that's just the wife )

I can solve that one; take the fob with you, then PMOI will get the "insert in slot" message instead. First time I got that, I had to get the manual out to locate said slot... only to find later that it makes no difference as long as the fob's in the vicinity next time you press start.

"you will be shot to preserve the battery."

 I wouldn't be surprised.

Amanda,

Mine doesn't have a slot , it is keyless entry and start ,I do take the fob with me but 'er indoors has a spare key in her suitcase handbag x

My ignition will not turn on unless the fob is inside the car

I didn't mean a key slot, mine has a hole under the steering column to dock the smart key. Not entirely sure what it's for, but I think I read somewhere that it has to do with changing various settings. (It is right where the old Frontera's bonnet release catch was - a touch embarrassing when viewing on the forecourt. There I was expecting the bonnet to open... and... yeah, well... ahemm!)

Of course, none of that matters if the spare's in the handbag. Which reminds me - we didn't get a spare, need to ring round the various dealers for a price.

lucky you trevor  slots&holes only lead to trouble . my xk has a slot for the smart key in central counsul wer you put your left arm on next to cup holders charlie

Charlie,

My centre console has a USB port so I can play decent music in the car , it probably has a docking slot for the key fob, but if it has, I haven't noticed .

Hi Amanda ,

On my 2009 Pre Lux providing you have the key fob in the car with you,if you press the middle Audio button (no ignition switched on )

next to and same as the ( apart from the fan logo ) air con fan button the audio will run without everything else starting up cd or radio

but this will cut out after ten minutes to save the battery ,just press it again. hope this helps.

cheers Alan

Amanda,

After extensive research and taking advice from people in the know , the answer is just press the radio on/off knob (the round silver one) .

Bet you don't feel as stupid as me !

Thanks Alan, that works perfectly.

Trevor, Dumb & Dumber springs to mind. Can't believe I didn't just prod it to see what would happen.

Nothing wrong with the North.

I am heading up to Lancashire on Sunday to watch Widnes beat Castlefod in the semi finals of the RL Challenge cup.
