Hello!

I have already done an 'Intro Post' but this is my first post on the model specific forum....

A beautiful 2008 Sport Premium 2.2D estate was purchased by yours truly yesterday evening. It is the most I have ever spent on a car and it absolutely had to be a Jag! I am very pleased to say (touch wood) that everything works, parking sensors, sat-nav, clutch, central locking etc. I have successfully paired my phone and uploaded my contacts and configured the voice activation, I think working in IT helps...?!

My previous car was a Rover 75 diesel estate and it was comfy on long journeys but not very enjoyable on my work commute. There is a canyon of difference between the two cars despite what they say on the Rover forums!

Anyway, I digress, I have a couple of questions which I hope I might be able to get some help on...

  1. When sat in the car with the key in position II there is a continuous buzz until you either start the car or switch it off - is this normal please?
  2. There is a rattley noise coming from the luggage compartment. I have checked that there is nothing loose and taken the parcel shelf/cover and towbar out. At the moment I think it is either the horrible silicone cleaner/shine stuff they use on interieors to make them look cleaner which just makes leather and plastic rub and cause rattle noises or the chrome effect plastic on the lip where the tailgate closes - this is a little loose but I was wondering how I can remove it and see if a clip has broken?

I think that is it!

If anyone would like to recommend any common areas that can rattle that would also be appreciated. I will be able to take some pictures if it stops raining!

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Andrew :)

Pretty much yes, welcome. There are several Jaguar-dedicated forums, and the following two are the most active by far:

http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-14/

http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/f26/

I'm a member of both of those, but I've no idea why there are so many separate forums for the same thing.

Regarding the buzz:

Hi Andrew [both].

It is not always quiet!!

With regards to the "buzz" I have never come across that, although I have come across some gurgles from behind the dashboard.

I had a Rover Sterling 825 for 11 years  --  a great car but rather a passengers car than a drivers car, and there is a huge difference between Rover and Jaguars.

I have only owned one estate car, although my wife also had one years ago, and for some reason they both had rattles from the luggage compartment.  I sometimes wondered if there were rattles in saloons but you could not hear them in the cabin.

With regards to the silicone cleaner applied  --  the dealers just want it to look clean and tidy, - I would give it a wipe over with white spirit and then apply some leather care product, and see how it goes.

Regards,

Peter.
