Completely out of the Blue while driving today, a yellow warning light came on with the message,

:- CRUISE NOT AVAILABLE

Does anyone know what can be done to sort this out, hopefully without waiting weeks foe an appointment at my Local Jaguar Garage.

Once again I thank you in advance for your help and advice.

Regards to all,

Colin

Colin,

Try removing the positive battery cable for 10 mins to reset the computer .

Or it could be a loose vacuum hose usually on the breather hose coming from the valve cover in front to the throttle body.

Hi Colin,

I have not had this happen to me, but I have heard of it happening before.

A suggestion is to check out the battery, as a slightly failing battery can play havoc with some of the less important electrical features.  If the battery is getting old or is a little discharged things like cruise control, radio etc will not function properly.

I had a problem with the rear demister, which was cured by putting the battery on charge for an hour.

Meanwhile, some of our members might have had the same problem and will probably be able to assist.

Colin,

Don't worry about it, we are West Country, people just take it as read that we need help !

Just taking mine for a service (2nd service) at an independent garage .

Hi Colin,

The club is about exchanging experiences which usually assist.

I bought a code reader [OBD2], but it stopped working for some unknown reason.  Luckily I have not had to use it since I found out it had stopped working.  The Jaguar main dealers will charge about £70 for half an hour to remove the message.

Next time you are driving, I would also check your if Cruise Control is working.

Regards,

Peter.

Peter,

Good call, forgot to mention that . I would imagine it is battery related Colin, so nothing to worry about really.

ATB,

Trevor

Hi Colin,

Someting elseI have thought about is DSC.

DSC should always be switched on [unless you are a boy racer] and Cruise Control is unavailable if switched off.  It could be that you have inadvertently switched of CC or that you have experienced a bit of slippy road .

I inadvertently switched off DSC when putting on the seat heater the other day, so it is possible.

Regards,

Peter.

I have just charged the Battery so far, run the engine but not driven it to see if cruise works, I cannot try it out as I have a builder parked in front of garage, but I will look at DSC as well thanks,

Hi Colin

Cant help with an answer im afraid but here will help . they are brilliant . hope it helps.

http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/forum.php

I had a look at the highlighted forum, and the first topic I read was about the amount of snobbishness [if that is the right word] on the Forum, and which also mentioned a touch of nastiness occasionally.

While I don't disagree that some of the information was not bad [not brilliant, though], I think that being more friendly is not too hard.  Just my opinion.

Hi Peter, here's an update on Cruise control. Firstly I charged up the battery, it showed fully charged and holding charge in about 20 minutes. Went on a test drive and my troubles were over! I thought. It engaged correctly and operated completely normally.

But today as soon as I went out again the Fault had returned. 'cruise not available' so on returning I removed the positive connection on the Battery for 10 minutes as suggested, but that still hasn't cured it. I will try to recharge the Battery again tomorrow, as it is looking like I have a poor Battery, wouldn't you say.

Al,the best my friend,

Colin

Colin ,

It does sound like the battery is on the blink, do you have one you can borrow just to make sure before you splash out ?

ATB,

Trevor

Hi Colin,

I does look as if you have a poor battery.  A member bought a car with a new battery fitted by the garage that sold it him, but he had several "failures" such as radio not working etc.  He sent me a photo of the battery and it was only a 54 amp whereas you need something quite a bit bigger -- 74 amp or so.

If you have a friendly accessory shop [that sells batteries] you can ask the shop assistant if he would check it for you.  Halfords can be helpful, at times

When I had a caravan, the battery I used was an 110 amp.

Regards,

Peter.

hi colin, peter&trevor are right its your battery, the winter is coming time for a new one. regards charlie

Charlie,

Colin and myself don't have winters down here in the West Country, but a new battery sounds like it could solve the problem .

ATB,

Trevor
