Does anyone know of a good Jaguar mechanic that could replace the complete front and back brake pads/shoes for me? I'm in Farnborough, Hants, GU14.  Many thanks.

Hi Andrew,

I got a quote from Halfords Auto Centre but it was incredibly expensive (£800 for all four wheels)! All the other quotes I got were under £500 for pads and disks. Thanks anyway.

Nick,

I had my discs and pads replaced as a matter of course when I bought my S Type a few months ago.

I used a local mechanic and he charged me £230 all in so perhaps that might be a guide figure.

This sort of work doesn't need a Jaguar dealer or specialist. Any competent mechanic will do a good job at a reasonable price.

Hi there,

That sounds a great price (£230). It's just finding a competent engineer in the area. I've always used a Jaguar garage but their prices are through the roof!

I'll have to start asking around.

Cheers,

Word of mouth is the best recommendation Nick.

I asked about mechanics at work 20 years ago and as a result I've been using the same chap ever since for routine stuff.

I've contacted several local motor mechanics and they're all telling me they need a special (expensive) tool to install the electric handbrake pads. Don't know if that's true or not, maybe they don't want the job.

Utter twaddle would be my reaction to that, having seen my mechanic replace them without any difficulty.

Halfords Auto Centre just replaced the disks and pads on mine for £550.  Jaguar were only £50 more expensive themselves (Jaguar prices seem to be surprisingly good on the fixed price servicing deals).

Although since having them done my electric handbreak has started playing up.
