S type remote fob/ignition key

Used my s type today (2004/2.7) and key fob worked fine although the range was clearly diminishing then, it gave up the ghost completely. Changed the battery but still absolutely nothing.

 

Does the key have to be re-linked to the car somehow?

Hi Martyn,

 

A main dealer should be able to sort the problem out but expensively.

 

An auto locksmith --  there are quite a few around -- and some are mobile would be the best bet.  They can usually do the reprogramming if necessary.

I replaced the batteries in both of my keyfobs as a matter of course when I bought my car and they both worked immediately without any need of re-programming. I wonder whether there might be a deeper problem Martyn.
