Jocurran 1
I have recently bought a 2003 2.5v6 AWD SE Auto xType which is going well at 103k mileage however there are 2 problems The check engine light does not illuminate when the ignition is switched on or if a sensor is disconnected to create a fault, it's been suggested to remove the instrument pack to check but before doing that is there a possibility that a relay or some such could be faulty or sticking The other problem is the cruise does not operate, when switching on the ignition and operating the cruise switch, cruise on or off shows in the display, but when driving the set speed does not operate nor the resume and if the cancel button is pressed cruise off shows in the display but can not get the cruise on back on, but cruise inoperative does not show on the display. On the diagnostics there is a clutch switch fault showing could this actually be the switch on the brake pedal or is it something more complex
david moore 61
as for your ignition/engine light not on? does the car start up? if so it just may be a bulb! as for your cruise control it may be a very bad earth connection thats giving you different readings on the display. any concerns further than that you can get an auto electrician that will check switches, connectors, and wires? who also should find the problem. Andy X400 3.0 27
Not 100% sure but i was told that the bulbs are probably led's . Mine doesn't come on and my mechanic thinks someone could have snapped it off to hide a emissions problem which would have illuminated the EML . I bought the car and didn't notice the EML was not operating until i got home . My mechanic put the scanner on it and emission codes were coming up and he noticed two brand new lambda sensors had been put on . I rang the guy who i bought it off and he denied all knowledge of the EML not working and admitted it had two lambda sensors on and was fine " which it wasn't " then stopped answering his phone ( dodgy b*****d ) . david moore 61
andy, glad that you have found the route of the problem. or more so the mechanic!. hope its not to much of a cost? when all is fixed i hope the car does not give you any more issues and you can have some trouble free motoring... Andy X400 3.0 27
Thanks David , while the car was been serviced my mechanic found a air intake pipe not connected properly ( i think that's what he said ) . He sorted that checked emissions and thankfully they were spot on . Oh and i had popped a bottle of cataclean in the tank which i bought for a previous car , don't know if that had any effect at all just stuck it in for good measure lol . Jocurran 1
Further to my initial post I have finally managed to get the car to a reputable Jaguar Independant and after diagnosis found that the car had, had its ECU replaced but from an earlier year and manual instead of auto and the light disabled in the software, now fitted with the correct ECU and light functioning, though still a slight problem with cruise Edited July 10, 2016 by Jocurran Spelling
