Another newbie in need of help

Firstly hello, I came across this forum whilst looking for help with a problem I have with my XK and thought it would be wise to join.

I bought my first Jaguar on Saturday, a lovely 2008 XK with low miles, I have admired them for quite a while and I've not been disappointed with my choice. I absolutely love the V8 power and growl as well as the comfort and ride, it is far superior to what I have been used to with my past cars. Unfortunately I've had a few teething problems, after returning home from  purchasing the car I noticed the smell of hot brake pads, on further inspection I found that the OS wheel was red hot, I lifted the car and tried to spin the wheel but the brakes were binding quite badly. The dealer offered to sort it out on Monday and said it was probably a sticky caliper piston caused by it not been used for a while. Not wanting to wait until Monday I promptly stripped the brakes down and cleared the oxidation on the calipers and some crud under the caliper piston seal. Reassembled and tested OK. I took it for a spirited run around Cheshire with the family (managed to shoe horn the kids in the back) and enjoyed the rest of the day.

All OK today, took it for a spin through Manchester Airport tunnels to appreciate the roar of that V8 (shame about the road works slowing me down). Happy days, all is good I thought. Fast forward a few hours and the in-laws come round for tea, my son being enthusiastic about the Jag, wanted to show his Grandpa around the car, unfortunately he didn't know that the Sat Nav DVD was is the boot and ejected the DVD. He put it back in but it made a strange noise and kept spitting out the DVD. It keeps trying to eject as if it thinks there is already a disc in there and will not let me re-insert the disc. I've had it out to see if there's anything obviously wrong but I can see anything. It's now making a horrid ejecting sound every 30 seconds and won't let me re-insert the disc. Kids, why do they fiddle?? So my long winded question is does anyone know how to get these fixed or if they have come across this is the past.

Yours hopefully

Nick

Welcome to the club, Nick.

I do admire the XK, both in design and engine power, but being an old pensioner I am sticking to my very comfortable s Type.

I have not come across the SatNav disc ejecting itself, and can only suggest that you clean it with ordinary CD cleaner pad that you would use on CDs.  Failing that, you could get a replacement disc  --- a Satnav updated  2012 disc costs less than £30, and there are plenty around if you google "Jaguar Sat Nav update".

It is good to ge all the little things sorted out.

Regards,

Peter.

As you say, the navigation cd unit is in the boot. I have only had reason to eject mine once to update the system, and I am sure that was by pressing the eject button on the machine in the boot. If he was messing around in the cockpit, it would be the music cd that he was ejecting.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions chaps! He ejected the Nav DVD in the boot, but now it just keeps spitting the disc out when inserted. The DVD looks in good condition and is the original one, free of dust and scratches.

I have read somewhere that the ignition needs to be switched on before you insert the DVD, so I'll give it another go later. Hopefully the DVD mech isn't broke, otherwise I'll need to get it repaired. I have found a place that repairs them from £70 not too far away, so I'll take it to him should I still have problems.

I'll update the post if I get anywhere with it.

Another slight issue I noticed is the buzzing noise coming from behind the dash when the engine is switched off, I believe this is an air sampler which can become noisy if gunged up. Does anyone know how to remove and repair this?

Many Thanks

Nick

Sat Nav issue now fixed!! After some jiggery pokery with my missus's tweezers and an old CD my Sat Nav DVD finally took the Nav DVD and I'm back in business...phew! I thought I was going to have to take it somewhere to get fixed. I had to take it on an extended test drive off course to ensure all was working ok

During my searching late last night I did come across some people that fix the NAV DVD units at reasonable prices, I've listed them below in case anyone is interested. Thanks for the suggestions anyway, I'll take a look around the site and read some posts. Cheers for now - Nick
