I have had a notification flash up to say restricted performance. This coincided with the engine management light that has also appeared. There is no noticeable difference in performance.

It appeared yesterday at first start up and when i came to start up again later it/they didn't come back on.Today upon on 1st start up this morning it did the same as 1st start up yesterday.

Anyone got any thoughts on what this may be or where to look in advance of a diagnostics hook up?

Incidentally, Im looking to find someone with a diagnostics tool nearby. Im just south of Norwich if that helps?

2.5 v6 petrol

Thanks

Stuart

Hi

Could be one of many things, only way to be sure is to plug in and see what fault codes there is

If you find any codes let us know and i can look them up in jtis

cheers

Thanks Joe. Btw is there value in getting an OBD unit to help me. If so which one should i aim for? I tried one unit that i got through E bay and it didn't work as the software that I was to link up with didn't cater for S Types so they gave me the money back. It was less than a tenner in any case.

Hi Stuart

most generic ones will read most engine fault codes, but only engine codes

I have a cheap elm 327 bluetooth adapter off ebay, just for monitoring the engine and sensors for less than a tenner, allow you to read and reset fault codes, using software like Torque or dash command apps

A lot of people buy Icarsoft LRII, there a bit dearer but can do a lot more functions, think there just over £100.

and for the more serious jaguar maintainer there's a mongoose lead, with Jaguar IDS/SDD software, this is what jaguar use and you can do every thing jaguar can, these are also around the £100 mark as well.

the basic generic code reader is ideal for basic diagnosing, but don't allways believe the description on the fault code,  the fault code should be accurate, but the description will be generic, go off the jaguar faults code description and you cant go wrong

cheers

Joe

Thanks Joe. That is very useful. I will get on it.

Interestingly I started up this morning and the restricted performance notice came on but not the engine management light. The RP light then went off and its not been back on since and i have started up three times and driven 280 miles and its still off!
