Good Evening All

I am a new member of the forum / club, and have come on specially to try to gain any knowledge as to a problem I have just started to encounter.

I have a 2002 X type 2ltr petrol, yesterday the yellow engine light appeared on the dash, and BOTH my dipped headlights went out ????

The headlights work on Main beam, the sidelights are fine, as are the front fog lights.

Can anyone suggest whether the yellow light on the dash and the headlights going out are connected, and, what could be the problem ???

I would be very grateful for any info..

Cheers

Ken

Hi Ken and Welcome to the Club,

No idea myself, sorry to say, but there are other frequent contributors to the forum who will be happy to provide some help and advice. Look out in particular for either Joe (Joe-Dot-Com) or Paul (Raistlin) both of whom have considerably more knowledge than yours truly.

Good Luck,

Steve

I doubt the two are connected. You need a code reader to see what caused the MIL light. They are avilable for a few quid on fleabay etc. Once you have the code(s) we can interpret them.

Clearly, the light problem is common to both sides and a quick look at the wiring diagrams should give a clue. I’m not near my diagrams at the moment but will look later, assuming you don’t have the diagrams to hand.

Dip beam relay in the under bonnet fuse box is where I'd start looking for the lighting problem. R11 on your car I believe.

Check both power and earth to the relay as well as switching signal.

Thank you so much for your advice, I will have a look at the fuse box in the morning, I’ll also try to get a code reader, and post the codes if I can

thanks again Raistlin
