Ohh hello, and i need advice :-)

Featured Replies

Well, I hope there are some experts here.... coz I'm in need of some advice ! :-) I've just bought a 5 year old Jaguar XF SE  ( previously drove X types ) and shes beautiful !..... BUT, yesterday I realised, that despite all the bells and whistles.... she doesn't have a sat nav !!!! and i had to lurk around the New Forest ( probably clocking up an additional 20 miles) whilst struggling with my moody iPhone and google maps. I don't want to put an old 'stick on the window, dangling wires' type sat nav :-( , and in such a fancy pants type car, isn't a sat nav a standard blooming gadget. HELP !!!!

Welcome to the club, Sue.

My previous x type SE did not have a sat nav and I found that the Sat nav is an optional extra.

So when I bought my s type 5 years ago the Sat Nav was on my list of want.

I think that if you have the touch screen it is possible to retro fit a sat nav.  But I am no expert and if Paul [Raistlin] sees this post he will give you some very good advice and possible how to source the kit required.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter ! thank you so much .... lets hope Paul can help ! it does indeed have the touch screen, hence I was so surprised no navigation tools ! ( and I get lost easily :-O ) kindest regards

Sue

I'm a bit puzzled here Sue, as far as I'm aware, touchscreens were always part of the sat nav option. Hve you checked the DVD in the boot?

Hi Paul..... well, it would appear (having gone at length through the owners manual) that it just does not have the facility of a sat nav.... it seems that there is an option to have one, but even where the hard button for the nav would be, i have a climate button instead :-( Im gutted that a SE would be missing such a basic tool, and my father has a standard xf thats five years old, and that has sat nav. I looked in the boot, but can see no dvd, just the on board computer box, and the battery.... spare wheel etc etc.

The SE was the entry model in the XF range, unlike the SE trim level in the X-TYPE and S-TYPE line up.

Therefore the SE model did not have sat nav, the SE business edition did.

Your car will be the 'facelift' model XF, so the satellite navigation system was hard drive based rather than a DVD unit in the boot.

I don't know what you would need to add the satellite navigation feature or even if it is possible ?

The SE did not have the ability to store CD's on the hard drive either, I take this to mean that the hard drive is not fitted so unfortunately it will take more than a software update to enable navigation.
