A while ago I had a problem with the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light coming on regularly. Member Carole Simpson-Hadley posted that she found that using Shell V-Power fuel helped, so I thought I would give it a go.

I had been using the cheapest diesel I could buy, so I let that practically run out. I then filled up with V-Power diesel. I've used V-Power ever since and have had no DPF warnings at all.

I think the idea is that the V-Power fuel has had all the particulates that clog the DPF filtered out, so it remains cleaner.

I know it costs extra but I'm a V-Power convert now and shall carry on using it.

I hope others will find this useful and may want to try their own tests.

Hi Nick,

I have been using Shell V Power for five years, plus the occasional dose of Millers Eco Plus [Diesel].  The mpg has been better and I have never had a DPF problem;

Good news, Nick...............yes, MOH and I are definite converts, so glad to have been of assistance.    Don't forget that should the amber DPF FULL warning pop up at some future time, a 15/20 minute trip using the J-gate for manual gear selection ,keeping the revs up around 2500/3000 or so, will result in a regeneration and the DPF warning will disappear.   You do have to switch off for a short while after the aforesaid trip, whereupon at restart the system will reset.

Onwards and upwards, and, as always, happy growling

I had a few issues where she would occasionally go into restricted performance mode, amber light on, but no DPF full warning. I read a post elsewhere on the forum where Old Peter recommended using premium fuels and since I've followed that advice I've had no more problems.

Also, if you're doing a lot of short runs or town work, they do benefit from a good run out occasionally...Our big cats like to be let off the leash now and again!

Hi Dave,

Yes, I have recommended premium fuel for quite a few years.  The 2.7 Diesel used by Jaguar and specifically designed for performance likes good fuel.

I did come across a person who said that he used recycled diesel in his transit van  --   old chip fat etc -- and he said he had never had a problem.  A few months later he was looking for a new engine.

Regards,

Peter.

I've used V-Power ever since buying the jag 3 years ago, gives better mpg and no major DPF problems. As said above, the cat does need to be let out of the bag occasionially
