Age of Battery?

Featured Replies

I've got an original Jaguar battery fitted to my S-type and I was wondering if anyone knew how to ascertain its age?

Cheers

No labels on the side. Only one on the top.

Hi Nick,

The Jaguar label on top of the battery seems a clue to the fact that the battery was Jaguar fitted..  I always write the date of fitting a new battery on the battery myself.

The varta battery I changed  last year was one that you didn't have to top up with distilled water, which is an indication of its age.

Peter.

hi

there usually a heat stamp on the battery somewhere with the date if there no label

later varta batteries used color codes

cheers

I can't seem to find any indication of date but I have tested the voltage and it averages out at 11.6v which is too low for a 'good' battery.

The upshot is that I'll get a replacement battery before the cold weather leaves me stranded 😞

Thanks for all the helpful comments, much appreciated.

I decided to replace my battery and used Halfords Autocentres to do it. They gave me a very good price for a Yuasa battery (£147.00) and included the fitting, saving all the car settings and getting rid of the old battery. They were very polite and did a good job. I know some people don't like Halfords but I thought they were ok.

hi

for that price I would of bought a AGM battery from the battery mega store, hankook agm, superb battery, gel dont leak, well recomended, 5 year garantee https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/hankook-sa59520.html

also are you a member, did you use your 15% off card from the jaguar owner club at halfords

cheers

A bit late now Joe. At least I got it fitted (saving my bad back) and the old one taken away.

Hi

They take your old battery away because a lot of scrap places give 10 to 15 pounds now scrap value for a battery.

But yes your right Theres some serious weight in them

Cheers

Joe

I changed my battery in December 2016, when it was just 5 years old.

We have a small accessory shop  very close to where we Iive which I always use.  I got a Platinum Battery fitted for £102.  They are heavy things to lift!

I have been having battery problems on and off for the last year. Drove down to Cardiff Friday afternoon ,no problems ,went to move the car a couple of hours after arrival and I have a full failure display , New battery fitted, but I was surprised that the failed battery was only 650 watt and a Jaguar battery where as the replacement is 900.

Hi Mike,

I have come across this before.  A member, who had just bought a Jaguar found that the heating and demist systems were not working and when I said it could be the battery he told me that a new one was fitted by the dealer from whom he bought it, and sent me a photograph.  The battery was a 500amp and would have just about started a mini.

I have a Platinum 800 amp on my Jaguar and as I don't do many long trips I put in on charge once a fortnight.  Luckily I have an exterior socket outside the garage, and it is doing its job now.

Regards,

Peter.

Cheers peter,You cannot even trust main dealers. All I have to do now is repair or replace the battery hold down strap, bolt sheared,ah well never a dull moment.
