Hi Alan,

I think the first thing you ought to look at is the history of the car you are looking to buy before you start to examine it in detail.  To do that, download the  App called  Vehicle Smart.   It will give you its MOT's history  and it is free.

The history of the car will show you how well the cars was looked after and what test flaws it would have

You may have to do some travelling to find one, and I don't think that you will find one at a Jaguar Main Dealers.

Lets know how you get o.

Regards,

Peter.

Spotted a couple within my budget on eBay, but I'm in the north west and both are too far away to make it worthwhile. I'm sure something will come up closer though.

hi

main thing to check on that era of cars are rust

2 main points, rear sub frame, unique to 1999 to 2002 and getting scarce now for good ones, sills, hidden by covers can completely rot away, if theres rust on the rear arches, odds are sills are gone, other places inside boot, dodgy seal around rear lights let water in and inside doors, on the seams, they rust inside out, you get what look like spiders under the paint

also check the drive, theres lots of suspension bushes on these, should drive silky smooth, no knocks or bangs

as above use "vehicle smart" to check mot history

cheers

Joe

I would suggest spending a bit more and buying a facelift car from 2002 onwards, far better car for your money ?
