Hi all, have searched for this but can't find an answer, apologies if there is one somewhere.

I have a 2013 Jaguar XF Premium Luxury, which according to the screen and the manual has ipod connectivity. The sockets in the middle compartment are just USB and Aux. I have an old ipod classic with the original Apple cable, but when I plug this into the USB socket the system does not recognise it - if I select ipod on the screen it just says 'please connect ipod'. The ipod itself has a message onscreen saying 'Do not disconnect', and is charging, which suggests the socket works but I do not get why the system won't recognise it.

Does anyone know what the issue is here and how to fix it please?

Thanks!

HI, no I only have an Aux socket and a USB one. The later video suggests I should be able to just plug into the USB one and off it goes, but it only charges it.

Could be the type of ipod. Can you play music from your phone via usb?

May also need to select usb on the screen. And have you tried connecting the ipod via bluetooth.

Hi ya Womble,

have you got the latest software downloaded that your iPod is capable of taking.

have you got Bluetooth switched on

have you tried to connect using Bluetooth

Not much help but it’s steps worth suggesting if you haven’t tried already

Thanks for the reply. I can play music from my phone when connected via USB. When I connected the ipod to the USB and selected USB instead of ipod the screen still said please connect device. I can't connect the ipod via bluetooth as it doesn't have bluetooth and I don't have an adaptor that does that.

Thanks for the reply. The ipod has the latest software itunes will get for it. It doesn't have bluetooth.

As the USB socket works for the iphone I guess it must be either the ipod being too old or a problem with the cable. I'll have to see if I can find another one to test it out with.

Hi Mark,

I have a 2011 XF-S, the Portfolio version, and a very old iPod which I only keep for its 160Gb capacity. They work fine together, so either something has changed between XF model years or there's something wrong with your iPod. My XF has the same sockets as yours (Aux & USB) and the iPod works fine when plugged into the USB socket. My more recent iPhone also plays music and makes/accepts calls both via Bluetooth.

Have you had any opportunity to try a different iPod? I do have to restart mine occasionally, might be worth a try.

Best of luck,
Jon

Change the cable but also try it with an aux cable, see if that makes a difference.

No expert, but must be a pretty old ipod with no bluetooth.

Having rooted around on youtube i think you will need a bluetooth transmitter which fits into the port in your ipod. However, then you cant charge your ipod. The auxilliary cable is the way to go by the looks of it.
