My 2008 X type 2.0 diesel will only start start but after a minute or so the car will cut out

Featured Replies

Last week i ran out of diesel in my 2.0 diesel 2008 X type, after refuelling i tried to start it but no joy, so called out RAC and was told that the fuel pressure sensor needed replacing, so the local garage who i have used for several years replaced the fuel pressure sensor but still wouldn't start, so then as a process of elimination they wanted to replace the fuel pump which i accepted, but still the car would not start, so yesterday i commissioned the garage to check the injectors and which are all good.

So having done the above, the garage doesn't know what else to do, so now the car will start but only with using "EASY START" but after around a minute or less cuts out and.

Please help

Abrar

Hi Abrar, and welcome to the club.

My s type is the third diesel that I have had.  When I had the first I was given the good advice to always fill up the fuel tank when there was still about 50 miles worth of fuel.

The best thing that the garage should have done would have been to flush out the fuel tank as there could be a blockage in the fuel pipes  ---  fuel tanks can get mucky inside.

Regards,

Peter.

First port of call would be the filter, check to see they cleaned it or replaced it. If the injectors are ok and you have a new fuel pump then fuel supply is the likely culprit. As Peter says, could be a blockage somewhere.

Also, exa ine the hoses around the air flow meter. If they look to be holed replace them.

can I just say …. make sure the fuel filter is full ? then make sure by taking off the fuel pipe that feeds the diesel injectors, and see if diesel pumps out, (with good pressure)  if you have any air leaks it will not start !  good luck dave.
