Water in the spare wheel well

With the recent heavy rain I've notices a small amount of water in the wheel well. Small - around a cup full, I haven't been able to trace where it's coming in from, my concern is obviously the battery and other electronics are in there and even I know electrics and water don't mix.

Help.......

Dave

Hi, I have the same problem, I have done some reseach on other forums and it seems that there is an area behind the rear lights that allows water in. A few guys took the lights out, and added some silicon sealant around the seal and it cured thier problems. I am going to give it a go tomorrow.. Just thought I would mention it.. Cheers.

Thanks Glen, let me know how you get on (especially if there are any top tips). I'm off travelling on work tomorrow so won't be able to try anthing until next weekend.

Best regards,

Hey guys,

Followed your advice and some online guidance, applied the sealant and it seems to have done the job :) :) :) . I'll post some pictures.

Many thanks, :D

Okay, so I was a little premature breaking out the champagne :(

Car was parked over the weekend adn we've had persistent rain pretty much all weekend, I check the boot this morning and there's a cup full of water in the wheel well. Thankfully there were a couple of tracks below the lower part of the seal where the latch for the boot is.

When I get chance it's time for a bit more sealant, this time around the entire seal.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi, I'm on my second S Type (first was a 4.0 V8 and now have an STR), both came with water leaking into the boot! I managed to fix the first one by lifing the seal off and applying silicone sealant (clear water resistant bathroom type from a DIY shop) to the metal panel joints (wait for it to go off before reapplying the seal), and also adjusting the closing bracket position downwards to make the boot seal tighter (it is in the centre under the plastic lower boot trim - just remove the trim, slacken off the two bolts and adjust before retightening). I tried this on my STR when I bought it about a month ago but found it still leaked (I also found that one of the rear light clusters was not secured properly - the pop in stud was not pushed home, so they are worth checking) - On further investigation I found that there was a 1/2 inch split in the seal which someone had tried to plug with some plumbers mate! I bought a new seal from the Jag dealer for £62 inc VAT and fitted it (only a 5 minute job) a couple of weeks ago and no problems since, hope this helps,

John.

Hi John,

thanks for your input here - I don't seem to have the problem anymore - I keep a watching eye on it, but may consider to replicate the things you suggest just to be thorough.

Best regards,

Dave

Hello there

Hello there, I write from Italy.

I am the proud owner of a Jaguar S-Type.

I had a problem with rainwater entering from the rear light but I cannot find anyone online who sells a new seal.

It's urgent: do you have any suggestions or links for online purchase?

thank you very much

AG
